Education

There are three types of schools: public schools, private schools, and home school.

Most students attend public school. These schools are run by the government of a city. They are free as the citizens of the city pay taxes to pay for the school building, teachers salaries and so on. They are usually large.

The families who want their children to attend private school must pay tuition. These schools are usually smaller than public ones. Their students usually wear uniforms.

Some families choose not to send their children to school at all.

They educate their children at home.

They star t their formal education when they are six years old and continue it for at least twelve years.

When students have completed the 12th grade, they may end their formal education or they may go to college where they will specialize in one area of study. At the end of four years they may enter graduate school to prepare to be a doctor, dentist, or lawyer.

They start school when they are five or they may attend nursery school from the age of about there.

Compulsory education begins at the age of five and end at sixteen.

They may stay at secondary school for further two years, they may go to colleges. Higher education begins at eighteen and usually lasts four three or four years.

Yes, there are. Some children go to private schools and have to pay for their education. But more for than 90 % of Britain's children attend state schools which are free.

English and American school children usually get report cards two or three times a year. The report card gives the subjects, the grades, and sometimes commends from the teacher. Parents have to sign the report, and the students take it back to school. Some parents reward their children for good report cards and punish them for bad report cards
