The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
It is the official name of the state . The UK is situated on the British Isles. There are four countries in the United Kingdom: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. England, Scotland, Wales are three main parts of Great Britain.
London is the capital of GB but also the capital of England. Cardiff is the capital of Wales. Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland. Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland. Its main cities are London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow.
Its closest continental neighbors are France and Belgium. Recently the channel Tunnel, which links France and England, has been built.
Great Britain is washed by seas all around. The western coast of Great Britain is washed by the Atlantic Ocean. The eastern coast is washed by the North Sea. The Irish Sea is between Ireland and Great Britain. The southern coast is washed by the English Channel or La Manche.
The chief rivers of Great Britain are: the Severn, the Thames, the Clyde, the Tweed. London stands on the Thames.
