Guest lesson - 7 "G" Form Teacher - Khoroshilova Y. Date - 9.04.2014

Theme: "Healthy eating", listening.

Aims:

  • to enrich students' vocabulary on "food" topic;

  • to develop listening and speaking skills;

  • to train grammatical skills - Present Simple, modal verb "should";

  • to make pupils think about their health and what they eat.

Plan of the lesson:

  1. Greeting

Good afternoon, children! How are you? What day is it today? What date is it today? What season is it now? How is the weather? Today we are going to do many interesting tasks, but before we start, I want you to guess the theme of our today's lesson. Look at the pictures and say what do you see? (picture of food). We are going to speak about food. What kind of food? (picture of hamburger and salad). Junk food and Health food.

Do you know any proverbs about food? "An apple a day, keeps a doctor away". How can you translate this proverb? How can you understand it?

  1. Phonetic training. Divide following words in two groups - [ɪ:] and [e] (Power Point presentation)

Bread, tea, meat, meal, head, peach, bean, lemon, pea, tree, bee, ten, send, melon.

  1. New words: listen and repeat

Health food - полезная еда low-fat - низкоколлорийный

Junk food - вредная еда zero-calorie - безкаллорийный

Diet - диета chopped - нарезанный

Unprocessed food - необработанная пища pure juice - натуральный сок

Fresh - свежий dried fruit - сухофрукты

Frozen - замороженный leafy - листовой

Nutrition Pyramid - пирамида питания non-leafy - нелистовой

Canned - консервированный

  1. Lexical task (Power point presentation)

I will show you pictures of different food, your task is to define health or junk food.

  1. Warm up activity

What kind of meal we have during the day? (breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper)

Ask your partner which picture of breakfast is close to him, and then tell us about it.

  1. Pre-listening task - answer the following questions:

  1. How often do you eat junk food?

  2. Do you have breakfast every day?

  3. How many fruits or vegetables do you eat a day?

  1. Listening - I am going to show you the video. Watch and listen very attentively in order to do some tasks according this video. (video "how to eat better", youtube).

  2. Listening comprehension - watch the video for a second time and do the following:

True or false quiz: (Power Point presentation)

  1. Fresh foods and frozen foods are better than canned.

  2. "Low-food" or "Zero-calorie" food is bad for your health.

  3. We should have 5 portions of fruits and vegetables a day.

  4. We should eat fish every day.

  5. The main drink during the day should be milk.

Complete the sentence according the video: (Power Point presentation)

  1. Physical break - watch the video and repeat all movements.

  2. Post - listening task. Fill in the following chart - express your own opinion.

  1. Group work. Divide into two groups. I will give you small pictures of food and your task is to make a nutrition pyramid - what products are on the top, what in the middle and what in the low level. Now please look at the picture of world nutrition pyramid and compare with yours.

  2. Home task - make up a daily menu of health eating.

  3. Reflection and evaluation.

  1. Has this lesson changed the way you feel about your eating?

  2. Did you learn anything knew about healthy eating?

  3. Make a note of any useful vocabulary you have learnt.
