THE ADJECTIVE

Порядок определений, выраженных прилагательными:

качество - размер - возраст - форма - цвет - происхождение -материал.

A beautiful big old round brown English wooden table.

Two pretty young first-year Russian students.

Прилагательные в английском языке изменяются по степеням сравнения. Прилагательные делятся на одно(дву)сложные и многосложные.

Степени сравнения одно(дву)сложных прилагательных

положительная сравнительная превосходная

степень степень степень

old older the oldest

big bigger the biggest

nice nicer the nicest

happy happier the happiest

gay gayer the gayest

ИСКЛЮЧЕНИЕ:

good better the best

bad worse the worst

little less the least

many more the most

far farther the farthest

far further the furthest

Let's sit at the farthest table. (самый дальний)

I'm waiting for further instructions. (дальнейшие)

older - elder

по возрасту

older (старше) - the oldest (старейший, самый старый)

old

в семье или по чину, по положению

elder (старший) - the eldest (самый старший)

My elder sister is three years older than me.

Запомните сравнительные конструкции типа:

the sooner the better,

The longer the night the shorter the day.

better and better, more and more, bigger and bigger

Your English is getting better and better.

Запомните прилагательные с окончанием -ly:

friendly - (дружелюбный)

lively - (оживлённый, весёлый)

lonely - (одинокий)

lovely - (приятный)

silly - (глупый)

as…as , not so…as , less( more)…than , twice as…as , the same as

She's as beautiful as her mother.

It isn't so cold as yesterday.

I spent less( more) money than you.

Petrol is twice as expensive as it was a few years ago.

He's the same as he was five years ago.

Прилагательные, не имеющие степеней сравнения:

left, medical, dead, greenish, junior, senior, wooden, middle, empty, pregnant, round, unique.

После глаголов:

sound, seem, smell, look, feel, taste, be

употребляются только прилагательные.

Please be quiet.

That music sounds strange.

This game seems easy.

It smells good.

This girl looks pretty.

He still felt sleepy. but I don't feel well today.

This salad tastes terrible.

so +прилагательное / наречие

The book is so interesting.

They are so nice.

such + ( прилагательное ) +существительное

It was such a long story.

They are such nice people.

enough

прилагательное + enough

I can't run very far. I'm not fit enough.

enough + существительное

We've got enough money.

We didn't have enough time.
