Урок английского языка в 8-м классе.

Цели урока:

обобщить лингвострановедческий материал по указанной теме; углубить и расширить знания по теме.

Обучающая - обучение навыкам говорения по теме "Великобритания", формирование лексических навыков, обучение аудированию.

Практическая - формирование речевой компетенции-совершенствование коммуникативных умений в четырех основных видах речевой деятельности (говорении, аудировании, чтении и письме).

Воспитательная - воспитывать уважение к культуре, истории, традициям страны, изучаемого языка.

Развивающая - развитие социокультурной компетенции - увеличение объема знаний о специфике страны изучаемого языка, развитие памяти и речевых навыков по теме, развитие речемыслительной деятельности, расширение кругозора обучающихся.

Задачи урока:

• познакомить учащихся сo страной изучаемого языка.

• расширить и закрепить лингвострановедческие знания;

• научить учащихся монологическим высказываниям, научить рассуждать по заданной теме;

• развивать интерес к учебно-познавательной деятельности на английском языке;

• развивать умение учебного сотрудничества на уроке.

Оборудование:

Мультимедийное оборудование, презентации по теме «Великобритания», презентация с вопросами и тестами для проверки.

Ход урока:

1. Организационный момент. Вступительное слово учителя.

- Good morning, boys and girls. How are you today? Good! Let's start our English lesson. So, the task is to brush up our knowledge about English and Great Britain, about London and its sightseeing. But what English speaking countries do you know?

- Yes, that's right. They are the UK, Canada, the USA, Australia and New Zealand. But today's lesson will be about Great Britain. Please, look at the active board. (Slide 1)

- Let`s listen to our student about Great Britain.

(Slide 2) The United Kingdom of G.B. and Northern Ireland is situated on the British Isles. The British Isles consists of two large islands, G.B. and Ireland, and about five thousand small islands. Their total area is over 244,000 square kilometers.

- (Slide 3-4) The UK is made up of four countries: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. GB consists of England, Scotland and Wales and doesn't include Northern Ireland. The capital of the UK is London.

- (Slide 5) The British Isles are separated from European continent by the North Sea and the English Channel. The western coast of GB is washed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Irish Sea. The surface of the British Isles varies very much. The north of Scotland is mountainous and is called the Highlands, while the south with its beautiful valleys and plains is called the Lowlands.

- (Slide 6) There are a lot of rivers in GB, but they are not very long. The Severn is the longest river, while the Thames is the deepest and the most important one.

- Another student will tell us about the Weather.

- (Slide 7-8) The mountains, the Atlantic Ocean and the warm waters of the Gulf Stream influence the climate of the British Isles. The weather in GB is very changeable. A fine morning can change into a wet afternoon and evening and vice versa. The English people say: "Other countries have a climate; in England we have weather." The English also say that they have three variants of weather: when it rains in the morning, when it rains in the afternoon or when it rains all day long. The weather is the favorite conversational topic in GB. After they greet each other they start talking about the weather. The best time of the year in GB is spring (of course, it rains in spring too). The two worst months in Britain are January and February. They are cold, damp and unpleasant. The best place in the world then is at home by the big fire. Summer months are rather cold and there can be a lot of rainy days. The most unpleasant aspect of English weather is fog and smog. This is extremely bad in big cities especially in London. The fog spreads everywhere so cars move along slowly and people can't see each other. They try not to be run over by a car but still accidents are frequent in the fog.

The Union Jack

This is the popular name given it the flag of the Great Britain. Actually it is called the Union Flag and it is a mixture of several flags. It all began in 1606 when Scotland was joined to England and Wales. The Scottish flag (St. Andrew's Cross), which is blue with a white cross from corner to corner, was joined to the English Flag (St. George's Cross), with a red cross. The flag of St. George can still be seen on churches in England. Later, in 1801, when Ireland was joined to the union, as it is called, the Irish Flag of St. Patrick's Cross was added, white with a red cross from corner to corner.

In this way the British people got the Union Flag which is red, white and blue. King James The Third (1566-1622) ordered that the Union Flag should be flown on the main mast of all British ships, except on ships of war.

Here the flag was flown at the front of the bowsprit. The end of the bowsprit was called the Jack Star and so we get the name of Union Jack. A "jack", by the way, is an old word for a sailor.

The Union Jack is also on the flags of Australia and New Zealand.

Pupil: The British flag, the Union Jack, is a combination of three flags: the Saint George's cross, the Saint Andrew's cross and the Saint Patrick's cross. They represent England, Scotland and Ireland. Wales isn't represented in the Union Flag: the Welsh have their own flag.
