Theme: I'm Colin's sister? (Unit 2. Step 2)

Grammar: Possessive: 's.

Vocabulary: grandmother, grandfather, mother, father, sister, brother, cousin, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, children, parents.

The aims of the lesson:
Educational: to train new words and phrases when telling about your family, to form the skills of understanding a foreign speech.

Developing: to develop the pupils habits of the oral speech, to develop pupils creative and logical abilities, understanding, reading and writing, grammar and lexical skills, to develop communicating abilities, to form grammatical skills about "Possessive Case".

Bringing-up: to bring up love and interest to the subject, to respect each other, to create an English atmosphere in the classroom, to teach the pupils to interact and to work in groups and individually.

The tasks of the lesson:

1) To provide an assimilation of the lexical material by the students during the lesson;

2) To develop reading and speaking skills;

3) To develop pronunciation skills;

4) To teach the pupils to say about their family;

5) To interest the students in the studied language.

The type of the lesson: presentation of new material

The equipment of the lesson: flash cards, textbooks, computer.


The procedure of the lesson

I. Organization moment. Greeting.

Good morning, children! Take your seats, please, and get ready for the lesson. I am very glad to see you. How are you today? Who is on duty today? Who is absent?

II. Check up the home task.

III. The main part of the lesson.

1. As you have already understood we are going to speak about family and its' members. Open your books on page 37 ex. 3, listen the words and say after me in chorus. Now open your vocabularies and write down new words.

Grandmother [ˈɡræn(d)ˌmʌðə] - бабушка

Grandfather [ˈɡræn(d)ˌfɑːðə] - дедушка

Mother ['mʌðə] - мама

Father ['fɑːðə] - папа

Sister [ˈsɪstə] - сестра

Brother ['brʌðər] - брат

Cousin [ˈkʌzn ] - двоюр.брат/сестра

Aunt [ɑːnt] - тетя

Uncle [ʹʌŋk(ə)l] - дядя

Niece [ni:s] - племянница

Nephew ['nefju:] - племянник

grandson ['grænsʌn] - внук

granddaughter ['græn,dɔ:tə] - внучка

Children [ˈʧɪldrən] - дети

Parents [ˈpeərənts] - роители

He [hi] - он

She [ʃi] - она

They [ˈðeɪ] - они

Repeat after me in chorus!

Doing exercises.

Now look at the ex.1. p.36. There are 9 family members. Their names: Ann White, Paul White, Andy, David Evans, Jane Evans, Mark White, Mary White, Colin, Carol. We should understand who is who and put the necessary letter in the boxes in ex.2 p.37.

Ex. 4 p. 37. Look at the "family tree" (p.39) and write the names.

Possessive Case of Nouns


A noun in singular form + ' s

A noun in plural form + '

Question: whose?

Eg. The boy's toy

The boys' toys

If the plural form of nouns was formed without -s, -es (exclusion words), the Possessive Case will be formed by 's.

Eg. The children's room

The men's cars

The women's dresses

Now take the flash cards and let's practice the rule.

E. 1. Flash cards: Pete and Mary are a husband and a wife. They have got two children: Ann and Tom. Ann and her husband Nick have got a daughter Lisa.

Read the story and make sentences with the following words.

Ex.2. Underline the correct variant.

Ex.3. Listening and speaking:

a) T: Look at the pictures (page 15). How many families can you see?

Cl: We can see four families.

b) T: Listen and say which family I am talking about.

Cl: It is a family of … . (Речевая опора записывается на доске)

Text 1. They are a family of three. The parents have got a child, a son.

Which family is it? (monkeys or hares)

Text 2. They are a family of four. The parents have got two children, a son and a daughter. (Bears)

Text 3. They are a family of five. The parents have got three children: two sons and one daughter. (Cats)
