Ход урока

1.Орг.момент

T: Dear students and colleagues! Our lesson today will be unusual, because we are not an English group but a tourist group. Our aim is to find a suitable place for us to go during our holidays. I have chosen a photo of some southern city. Look at it and tell me what you see. Do you like this place? (The 1st slide of the presentation)

The 2,3slides are for teachers

T: I want you to describe the place. Do it in turn, please. (P1, P2, P3)

T: Now look here. It`s a matching exercise. The task for you will be the following: find suitable word combinations. (The 4 slide of the presentation)

palm beaches

delicious oil

suntan atmosphere

golden trees

relaxing food

Slide 5

T: I offer your attention two pictures. Choose the best and describe it, please. Begin your sentences with:

  • I can see… (golden beaches and many tourists)

  • I can feel… (the warm wind from the sea)

  • I can smell… (the exotic tastes of local dishes)

Slide 6 T: Thank you for your choice. I like the place as well. Now I suggest you going to 3 travel agencies, which offer this place for rest.

*** Pre-work: make an advert of your own agency (P1, P2, P3) and give a description of the place, the hotel, the facilities (P4, P5, P6)

P1: The agency "Travel World"

P2: The agency "Globus"

P3: The agency "Good start"

Group work

T: I will divide you into 3 groups: P1, P2, P3 - managers of their agency; P4, P5, P6 - travel agents; P7, P8, P9 - customers

T: Each manager advertises the place (the hotel, conveniences, prices, sporting facilities, types of services)

T: Each agent gives extra-information about the resting place to the customer.

T: Each customer collects information, asks 2-3 questions and chooses the best variant and one of you will tell the class about your choice.

T: Thank you. But dear friends! There are cases, when tourists are given wrong information. Imagine that some of you are pessimists, who had problems while travelling, while others are optimists, who try to find a compromise.

Слайд 7

Some tips for making an argument:

Pessimists

The room was rarely cleaned.

There were a few vegetarian dishes in the menu.

The conditioner didn`t work.

The beach was overcrowded.

Optimists

Maybe you had to ask the maid to do everyday cleaning.

You could ask the chef to give you the list of dishes beforehand.

You should ask the hotel manager to call the repair service to fix it.

If I were you, I would have chosen a resort, which is not so famous.

IV. Checking the home task (slide 8)

T: I asked 3 of you to make presentations about one foreign country, you have been to and liked. We`ll listen to Lisa`s presentation. She has prepared 3 questions before showing the presentation. I have some tables for you to fill:

Lisa`s questions:

  1. What cities in the UK have I visited?

  2. Which was my favourite and why?

  3. What surprised me in London?

The winner of the quiz will get a prize.

V. T: Comment on wise statements (but before it - make up the statements from separate word combinations.)

*** Statements:

  1. When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

  1. The man who goes out alone can start today; but he who travels with another must wait till that other is ready.

  1. The world is a book, and those who do not travel, read only a page.

  1. Travel broadens the mind.

  1. The more we learn different countries, the more we know each other.

Slide 9, 10,11

V. T. I want to thank you all for your hard work and activity. We have spoken about places for rest, discussed some possible problems and come to some conclusion where to go. Next time, we`ll try to practice in tickets booking. I believe our today`s communication will help you. Goodbye.
