Theme: Grammar lesson. Past Perfect Active

The aim: 1. Develop pupils' speaking, writing skills.

2. To learn the Past Perfect Active Tense.

3. Teach pupils to make up simple sentences and to put questions.

The procedure of the lesson:

Org. moment: Good morning, dear students! Take your seats! Who is on duty today? What date is it today? Who is absent today?

Warm-up: What day is it today? What is the weather like today? How are you? What activity did you do yesterday?

Checking-up h/w: Ex.11 p.38 Fill in the gaps with the suitable verbs.

The main part: Today we are going to practice the using of the Past Perfect Active Tense. Let's repeat the rules. When do we use this tense?

The Past Perfect expresses the idea that something occurred before another action in the past. It can also show that something happened before a specific time in the past.

Affirmative form

Interrogative form

Negative form

Had I written?

I had not written

He/she/it had written

Had he/she/it written?

He/she/it hadn't written

Example: When I came home my dad had already gone.

Had the match started before she arrived?

When we came to the station the train had already gone.

She thanked me for what I had done for her.

He took me to the kitchen and asked if I had had breakfast.

Exercise 12. Read the sentences with the Past Perfect Tense. Put the verbs in brackets into the gaps in the correct Tense. Past Perfect/Past Simple

Exercise 13. Writing. Read and decide which happened the first? In your note book write 1 over the thing that happened first, and 2 over the thing that happened late

Exercise 14. Read the letter.

Exercise 15. Complete the sentences using the information of Exercise 12.
