Plan of the lesson
Theme: Sports Day
Aims:
Educational: to develop pupils' speaking, reading and listening skills
Developing: to develop pupils' skills in oral speech and reading
to develop pupils' interest by the subject of English
Visual aids: pictures, tables, cards
Grammar: Past Simple Tense
Vocabulary: sports; distances; everyday activities
Optional materials: a soft ball/crumpled newspaper
Procedure of the lesson
I Organization moment
II. Warm up.
Students to stand in a circle to play a game of hot potato.
Name a category: Sports and throw a soft ball or a crumpled newspaper to a random student. The student has 10 seconds to name any sport, e.g. volleyball and then throws the ball/newspaper to another student who names a different sport and so on. If someone cannot name a sport within the allotted time or they repeat the sport already mentioned, they are out of the game. Time limit of three minutes.
III. Vocabulary
Students looks at the words in the box and listen as you play the CD. Then they try to match the words with the pictures in Activity 2. They should make guesses about new vocabulary. Students work individually on the task and then compare their answers in pairs.

IV. Presentation
Listen and read. Why is Charlie unhappy?
Charlie: Hello.
Mel: Hi Charlie! How was Sports day?
Charlie: Oh, not so good. What a disaster!
Mel: But you're really good at sport! What happened?
Charlie: I ran fast and I won the 100-metre race.
Mel: Brilliant!
Charlie: My team swam well in the swimming race.
We didn't win, but we got a medal.
Mel: Cool!
Charlie: I threw the javelin 28 metres and everyone cheered.
Mel: Well done!
Charlie: I jumped 4.8 metres and I broke the school long jump record!
Mel: Wow, Charlie, that's amazing!
Charlie: The last race was the obstacle course.
I didn't see the rope and I fell over…….
V. Comprehension.
Students listen and read the dialogue in Activity2 again to find the answers to the questions. Play the CD.
Students compare their answers in pairs.
