What are we going to talk about today? Today we are going to read and discuss the text about surviving subspecies of tigers. Where do they live? What do they eat? Why are tigers in danger? Why do people kill them? How long do tigers live? How many tigers are there in the world? Etc

  1. The main part of the lesson.

  1. Description of tigers

The tiger is the largest cat species in the world, reaching a total body length of up to 3.38m over curves and weighing up to 388.7 kg in the word. Its most recognizable feature is a pattern of dark vertical stripes on reddish- orange fur with a lighter underside. They live in wet, humid and hot jungles as well as icy cold forests. There are six subspecies of tigers. These tigers are called Siberian, Indochinese, South China, Bengal and Sumatran, Malayan. Their Latin name is Panthera tigris.

White tigers, this recessive color variant is found only in the Bengal subspecies and with regular stripes and blue eyes, it is not albinism

A well-known allele found only in the Bengal subspecies produces the white tiger, a color variant first recorded in the early 19th century and found in an estimated one in 10,000 natural births. Genetically, whiteness is recessive: a cub is white only when both parents carry the allele for whiteness. It is not albinism, pigment being evident in the white tiger's stripes and in their blue eyes.

  1. Types of Tigers Around The World

There are six subspecies of tigers:

Bengal Tiger The Bengal tiger is found in India as well as Bangladesh and it is known to live both heated areas of desеrt and the grassland where it is wet and coll.

Siberian Tiger The Siberian tiger is the largest of all tigers. As its name implies, it inhabits the region of Siberia in Russia.

Sumatran Tiger You will find the Sumatran tiger in the island of Sumatra. The Sumatran tiger is smaller than other species of tigers.

Malayan Tiger The Malayan tiger is only found around the Malayan Pennisula which is where the name comes from.

Indochinese Tiger The Indochinese tiger is found in area of Vietnam, Thailand, China and Cambodia.

South China Tiger The South China tiger features a very vibrant color of orange with black stripes on it.

Extinct Tiger Species The Balanese tiger became extinct in 1937 and that time they resided on the Island of Bali. In the 1950's the Caspian tiger became extinct.

  1. Distribution and habitat

Tigers are wild animals and they have to stay in their original habitat that are jungles, hills and many more natural and purely green places in open jungles, evergreen forests and mango grove swamps. The Indian tiger lives in open jungles, evergreen forests and mango grove swamps here they can have their own privacy. Many tigers are dead because of deforestation. Deforestation leads to make tigers homeless. Many tigers also enter villages and become man- eaters.

What do tigers eat?

A tiger's diet largely depends on the area they reside in

  • Siberian species: Their most favoured is wild board as well as Manchurian wapities, however, they largely prey on numerous forms of deer like roes, musks, moose and sikas.

  • The Caspian species: They are considered among some acutely endangered species of tiger. They usually consume larger animals like a camel, yaks, a horse, saiga antelopes as well as Caucasian wisents.

  • The Sumatran species: they are known to hunt largely for various species of deer including Malayan tapirs, muntjacs, boars and sambars.

  • Bengal species: these tigers usually hunt for livestock like a deer, or the native barasingas, buffalo, chital, gaurs, several species of boars as well as neelgai.

  1. Life expectancy, birth, mating

* A typical tiger's life expectancy in the wild is 15-20 years; somewhat longer in captivity. The oldest tiger on record was 26 years.

* Although there is no set mating season for tigers, breeding often occurs in the spring. The male may stay with the female for 20-80 days during this period.

* Gestation period is typically about 15. The cubs nurse for about 2 months, learn to hunt after about 11 months, and spend the first two years of their lives with their mother, before going out on their own.

  1. Working with the text.

T: Ok. Open your Students book at page 53. Now read the text and get ready to answer the questions. Why arе tigers return to Kazakhstan?

Tigers return to Kazakhstan

Tigers can be dangerous, of, course. But do we want to live in a world without these beautiful wild animals? A hundred years ago, there were 100,000 wild tigers living all over the Asia. But since then, tigers have disappeared almost everywhere. Only about 3,000 wild tigers remain now in a few parts of Russia, India, China and Southeast Asia. If nothing is done, they will be lost forever.

This has happened for two reasons. There are more and more people in the world every year. Roads, villages, farms, towns and cities have been built almost everywhere. So there are fewer wild places and large forests where tigers can live and find food. The other reason is hunting. Tigers have always been killed by hunters and farmers, but in the last 100 years guns have become common. So tigers have been killed more easily.

In Kazakhstan, the last wild tigers were seen in the late 1970s. but now there are plans to bring tigers back. An important international meeting was held in Astana in 2011. It was the meeting of the World Fund for Nature (WWF). Everyone agreed that we must not allow wild tigers to disappear from the world and government must work together.

The government of Kazakhstan plans to reintroduce tigers in part of the country where they used to live. A protected area for tigers will be created south of Lake Balkhash. The government plans to have tigers flown in from Eastern Russia because Russian Siberian tigers are almost the same as the tigers that used to live in Kazakhstan. The Russian government has promised to help.

The Iii River area south of Lake Balkhash is a large area that is good for tigers. It also has some of the animals that tigers eat - deer, gazelles and wild pig.so the plan makes good sense.

Other countries in Asia have agreed to protect wild tigers too. All these plans will make a big difference because they will allow tiger numbers to grow naturally. If they can keep their promises, these beautiful animals will not disappear
