Intellectual game

"Symbols of Kazakhstan"

Aims:

  • to develop interest to learning history of our Motherland

  • to promote patriotism, internationalism

  • to show importance and necessity of learning history of our Motherland

  • to develop communication skills

  • to consolidate knowledges of Republic's symbols.

2 teams (5-6 students) and jury are taking part in this competition.

Course of game

Supervising teacher: These days there are a lot of different events in our country, which are devoted to the 20th anniversary of Independence of Kazakhstan. And our today's game is devoted to it too.

Presenter: Good morning, my dear friends! We are glad to see you on our event. Today we have 2 teams and jury. Now I want to ask our teams to introduce themselves.

Student 1 : Our team is called "Motherland", our motto is "East or west, home is best!"

Student 2: Our team is called "Friendship", our motto is "A friend in need is a friend indeed!"

Presenter: Great! We have 2 different teams, but we have one Motherland, and now we are going to listen our State Hymn!

Presenter: We have a guest today. It is a pupil of 7th form Drozdova Polina. Please, listen to her attentively. (There is a small presentation with pictures of Kazakhstan and national music on a screen)

My Motherland

There is a golden sun in the sky.

There is a golden grain in the steppe.

There is a legend about the bravery of my land.

There is a beautiful country on the Eurasian continent.

It is a place where our glory was born in ancient times.

It is a place where peace and freedom always prosper.

It is a place where nature is so nice.

It is a place where people are so hospitable.

Oh, my Kazakhstani people, oh, my country!

I'm your flower which grows here.

I'm your song which everybody sings.

I have a wonderful space.

I have an open way to the future.

I have independent united friends.

I'm proud of them and all my majestic country!

So, let's start our game. There are 8 tasks in it. Every team's receive 1 point for each task.

Task №1. The first task is to give your associations to the word "Motherland"

(Students give examples and the presenter writes them on a blackboard)

Task № 2. Each country has its own symbols. Let's check how do you know symbols of our Republic. But first of all we should revise the words. Listen to me and repeat them. (There are some important words on a screen). There are 16 questions. The first team reads one question and the second team should answer this.


  1. What is the colour of the National Flag? (blue, gold)

  2. What is depicted on the Flag? (the sun with flying eagle in the middle and national pattern along the flagstaff)

  3. What does the National Flag symbolize? (unity, welfare, etc)

  4. Who is the author of the National Flag? (Shaken Niyazbecov)

  5. When was the National Emblem adopted? (The 4th of June in 1992)

  6. Who is the author of the National Emblem? (Yalihanov, Mamebecov)

  7. Who are the authors of new National Hymn? (Jymeken Najimedenov, Nyrsyltan Nazarbaev)

  8. When and where were the National symbols presented? (the 6th of June in1992. At the theatre of opera and ballet named after Abai)

  9. Who was named the first "pilot-cosmonaut of Kazakhstan"? (T.Aybakirov)

  10. What order is a sign of the top degree of difference? (The Gold Eagle)

  11. Where is the "Monument of Independence" situated? (in Almaty)

  12. What does the word "turk" mean? (strong)

  13. What bird do Kazakhs call "Red Goose"? (flamingo)

  14. What sea in Kazakhstan became an ecological disaster zone? (The Aral sea)

  15. What is the biggest lake in Kazakhstan? (Balkhash)

  16. In what city is the monument to 3 bias (Tole bi, Ajteke bi, Kazybec bi) situated? (in Astana)

Presenter: Thank you children. Good of you! I see you love your country. And know all symbols. And now we ask our judges to tell the score of the game.

Task №3. What can you say about future of our Country? (There are some adjectives on the blackboard to help students.)

Presenter: Thank you, children.

Task №4. Let's make a puzzle! The team, which makes the picture faster - are winners! (There are 2 pictures: "The boy in National cloth" and "The girl in National cloth". One Picture to each team)

Task №5. Competition of captains.

Presenter: Let's check the knowledges of our captains. Captains, come up. Listen to me and answer my questions:

  1. Who is the President of our Country?

  2. What is the national currency of Kazakhstan?

  3. Who is the akim of our region?

  4. When did Kazakhstan become independent?

Presenter: Good of you! You may take your seats. Now, we give the word to our judges.

Task №6. Imagine, if you were a President, what would you do? (The presenter gives some examples)

Presenter: Thank you for your interesting answers!

Task №7. The next task is to make crosswords. There are 11 words. Please, find them in a crossword. You have 3-4 minutes.

Task №8. The geography of our Country

Presenter: Let's see how you know the geography of our country. You should show regions, their names and the big cities on the map.

  1. show the southern part of our country and name the biggest cities;

  2. show the eastern part of our country and name the biggest cities;

  3. show the northern part of our country and name the biggest cities;

  4. show the western part of our country and name the biggest cities.

Presenter: I can say you are very intelligent pupils. You can say a lot about our Motherland. You can make crosswords, answer the questions and you know the geography of our Motherland very well. Good of you! Now, let's listen to our judges.

Judges: The winner is ….. they have got… points.

Presenter: Let's congratulate our winners. Both teams will get good marks. I want to thank you all for this interesting game and I have small presents for you.
