Тема: "Some More Facts About the English Language"

Цель: Расширить представление учащихся об английском языке на основе дополнительного материала. Ознакомить учащихся с новыми фактами из истории языка и его развития.

Развивающие задачи:

 развивать смысловую функцию речи;

 совершенствовать навыки мыслительных операций - умение сопоставлять делать обобщения, находить необходимую информацию;

 развивать коммуникативные навыки на основе монолога и монологических высказываний.

Воспитывающие задачи:

Формировать в ребенке чувство осознанности в необходимости изучения иностранного языка, как одного из условий становления гармоничной и высокообразованной личности.

Оборудование:

статья из газеты «Дайджест», карточки, индивидуальные тесты.

Ход урока:

I. Ориентировочно-мотивационный этап.

1. Выравнивание знаний.

T : When we pronounce some words we usually associate them with something. When we say "English" or "The English Language" we also have some associations. Look at the black board. You see the word "English"

E - endless

N - national

G - global

L - literary

I - important

S - strong

H - historic

T: I have described the word and I want you to give your associations on each word. For example:

English is endless. English is like an endless sea with deep waters and full of mysteries or English is like an endless road along which you can go all your life.

(Учащиеся комментируют каждое слово)

T: So English is endless, national, global, literary, important, strong, historic language. Would you like to speak about English? It's very significant I should say and symbolic to speak about the English Language at our English lesson.

And we'll start with your homework.

2. Контроль выполнения домашнего задания.

a) программное

T: At home you were to learn the word-combinations. Let's review them. Say it in English:

удостовериться, убедиться;

справиться с чем-либо;

что ты думаешь по поводу;

гораздо труднее;

испытывать трудности в чем либо;

несколько слов за один раз;

выяснить что-либо, запросить;

допустить ошибку;

понять что-либо.

b) перенос полученных знаний (в группах)

Task 1.

T: Group 1. Translate into English. (Задание на карточках)

T: Group 2. Translate into Russian. (Те же предложения, но на английском языке)

1. На уроках мы практикуемся в чтении, речи и письме.

2. Ты можешь справиться с новыми словами?

3. Я могу запомнить 20 слов за один раз.

4. Не пользуйся этими старыми книгами, тебе нужна современная информация о компьютерах.

5. - Что вы думаете по поводу этого учебника? - Я нахожу его очень полезным.

6. Я без труда выполняю грамматические упражнения.

7. Средний ученик может прочесть и понять этот текст.

8. Я испытываю трудности в переводе с русского на английский.

9. Прежде чем выяснить что-то, убедись, что ты не знаешь этого.

(Учащиеся переводят предложения и обмениваются ими)

c) Творчество

T: Some of you were to write compositions about language. Let's listen to them.

Организация монологической речи. 2 учащихся рассказывают свои сочинения о языке.

T: So summarizing everything we can say that English has really become global language because it is used in all spheres of human's activities. Let's name them I'll begin: English is the Language of sport…

(Учащиеся продолжают перечислять сферы деятельности человека)

3. Постановка учебной задачи.

T: When we described the language we said that English has a rich history. How much from the history of English do you know?

(Учащиеся делятся своими знаниями из истории)

T: Look through the questions on the black board.

b|b 1. Who were the invaders of the British Isles?

2. How many invasions (завоеваний) were in the history of the British Isles?

3. At what periods of time did they come to the British Isles?

4. What Language formed the basis of the English Language?

5. What languages co-existed after the Norman's invasion?

6. What kind of language is English nowadays?

T: Can you answer these questions? (Учащиеся затрудняются ответить.)

T: So, you can't answer these questions. Why? (Дети отвечают)

T: So what shall we do? (Дети отвечают)

T: Yes, we'll find out the facts from the history. Our task is to get more information to answer the questions.

II. Операционально-исполнительский этап.

Task 2. Work in pairs.

T: Find out information from each other and fill in gaps in your texts. Who finishes first is the winner.

Text. "From the History of English."

1) 2000 years ago the British Isles were inhabited by the speakers of the Celtic languages.

2) The Romans came to England in 43 B. C.

3) Latin was the language of the government.

4) After the Romans, Anglo-Saxons arrived in British Isles in the 5^th century.

5) They spoke Germanic language, which formed the basis of modern English.

6) In the 8^th century the Vikings came from Norway and Denmark.

7) The Vikings spoke Old Norse which generally influenced the Germanic language.

8) In 106 French-speaking Normans and William the Conqueror arrived in British Isles.

9) For 3 hundred years 3 languages co-existed: the aristocracy spoke French, Latin was used in church, ordinary people spoke English.

10) Today the English Language is half Germanic and half Romans.

T: And now let's try to answer the questions on the black board.

(Учащиеся отвечают про себя.)

Task 3. Borrowings.

T: So you know that English has a lot of borrowings. Some of them are given in the text. Have a look at them for a while.

(Учащиеся просматривают текст ещё раз.)

T: And now put away your texts. I'll show you the word and you are to say what language they are from.

(Учитель показывает карточки со словами, а учащиеся определяют страну.)

III. Рефлексивно-оценочный этап.

T: And now tell me what you have learnt at the lesson?

- Are you satisfied with your answers?

- Have you enlarged your knowledge of history?

- Have we fulfilled the task?

(Ученики отвечают на заданные учителем вопросы)

Домашнее задание.

T: Speak on the topic about the English language.
