Форма урока: урок-соревнование

Цель урока: активизация имеющихся в опыте учащихся знаний, полученных на уроках английского языка по теме «Великобритания»

Задачи:

  1. образовательная: формировать коммуникативную культуру школьников, формировать умение монологической речи, обобщить страноведческие знания учащихся.

  2. развивающая: развить коммуникабельность, самостоятельность, умения сотрудничать, развить способности к логическому изложению.

  3. воспитательная: воспитать положительное, уважительное отношение к истории и культуре англоязычных стран.

  4. сопутствующая: контролировать умения учащихся самостоятельно оценивать себя в разных видах речевой деятельности.

Технологии: ИКТ, технология проблемного вопроса

Приемы: прием поискового чтения, монологическое высказывание с опорой на полученную информацию с ключевыми словами, прием зашифрованного слова (кроссворд), прием соотнесения русского и английского эквивалента, тест

1.Warming-up

Greeting-Good morning Ss nice to see you today. Sit down, please. How are you?

Introduction: 1.Today we are going to have an unusual lesson. Lesson-competition, where you are going to work in three groups and get points for every task. But before we are starting, can you have a look at this slide and name the subject, theme of today's lesson?

2. You are right. And What are your associations with the word Great Britain?

Well done. Today we will speak about Great Britain, its traditions, customs, holidays, and tourists' attractions, famous and popular people. This is our plan. There are 5 steps.

-The first step is devoted to London's sights. When we are speaking about London we are speaking about Royal palaces, castles, beautiful squares, museums, art galleries. Your homework was to find some information about any London's sights.

-Great Britain is famous for its' outstanding people, so we are going to read the texts about celebrities.

Our life is impossible without holidays, so the third step is devoted to the holidays in Great Britain (do crossword).

- G.B. is a country of wisdom, so there is a great number of proverbs (you are going to find English and Russian equivalents).

- The fifth step is a test checked your knowledge of countryside. Let us start.

Now you are going to have a kind of excursion. What sight is it? You are welcome. You'll get 5 points for each sight

Reading, Speaking, Listening, Writing

As I've already said the second step is devoted to famous people of G.B. What famous people do you know? You are going to read the texts about Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Victoria and William Shakespeare. Do you Know when Queen Victoria was born? How many children did W.Sh. have? How old is Q.E. Read the text and fill in the table and then tell us about your celebrity. I'll give you 5 min. Now one representative is going to tell us about their famous people and other groups fill in the tables. Maximum-21 points

-Check only your table and count the points

Doing the crossword.

As I've already said it is impossible to live without holidays. What British holidays do you know? Now your task is to do the crossword and find key word. I'll give you 5min. What do you know about this person? (information about Claudius)

Tower of London

. It is one of the oldest buildings in London. It was begun by William the Conqueror the first Norman king in the 11th century as a fortress and a palace. Then it was a prison where many famous people died. Black ravens lives outside the Tower now. A man looks after the ravens and gives them food in the morning and in the evening. The Tower of London is a museum now. At Ten o'clock every evening the guards lock the big doors of the Tower for the night.

Westminster Abbey

It is a beautiful Gothic building. It was a monastery and a Norman church for a long time. Westminster Abbey has many historical associations. Nearly all English kings and queens were crowned there. One of the greatest treasures of the Abbey is the oaken Coronation Chair made in 1300. Many famous people are buried here: Newton, Darwin, and Dickens. In the Poet's Corner there are memorials to Shakespeare, Byron, and Burns.

Big Ben

There is the Clock Tower and the clock in the Houses of Parliament-Big Ben. It is the biggest clock Tower in Britain. It weighs 13,5 tons. The clock Tower is 316 feet high. People have to go 374 steps to reach the top. The face of the clock is very large. The minute hand is 14 feet long. The hour hand is 9 feet long. The man in charge of building was called Sir Benjamin Hall. This man was very tall and the workers and his friends called him Big Ben

Trafalgar Square.

. It is in the centre of the West End. Trafalgar Square was named in memory of Admiral Nelson's victory at the battle of Trafalgar in which he was fatally wounded. It was designed between 1829 and 1840 with Nelson's column as a centerpiece. The column is over 170 feet high with the statue of Nelson's showing him with one arm and with one eye.

National Gallery

It houses one of the finest art collection in the world. Including paintings of the British, Italian, Spanish, French, Dutch and other famous schools.

Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace was built in 1703. Buckingham Palace is now the official residence of the English Queen and the British Royal Family. It is like a small town with a police station, two post offices, a hospital, a bar, two sport clubs, a disco, a cinema and a swimming pool. The ceremony of the Changing Guard at Buckingham Palace is a great tourists attraction.

In London Shakespeare began to act and to write plays at well-known acting company. Most of his plays were performed in the new Globe Theatre. In 1613 he stopped writing and went to live in Stratford where he died in 1616.
