MASS MEDIA

The mass media plays (1)… important part in our lives. Newspapers, radio and especially TV inform us of what is going on in this world and give us wonderful possibilities for

(2)... education and (3)… entertainment. They also influence the way we see (4)… world.

It is true that (5)… world today is full of (6)… dramatic events and most news seems to be bad news. But people aren't interested in (7)… ordinary events. That is why there are so many (8)… programmes and (9)… articles about natural disasters, plane crashes, wars, murders and robberies. (10)… good news doesn't usually make headlines. Bad news does.

The main source of (11)… news for millions of people is television. People like TV news because they can see everything with their own eyes. And that's (12)… important advantage.

OUR PLANET EARTH

Today, our planet is in (4)… serious danger. Acid rains, global warming, air and water pollution, overpopulation are (5)… problems that threaten human on Earth.

Who is to blame for (6)… disaster? The answer is simple: all of us.

Our forests are disappearing because they are cut down or burnt. If this trend continues, one day we won't have enough oxygen to breathe.

(7)… seas are in danger. They are filled with (8)… poison: (9)… industrial and nuclear

waste, (10)… chemical fertilizers and (11)… pesticides. (12)… Mediterranean (Средиземное море) is already nearly dead; (13)… North Sea is following. If nothing is done about it, one day nothing will be able to live in ( 14)… seas.

Air pollution is another serious problem. In Cairo just breathing (15)… the air is dangerous

--- equivalent to smoking two packs of (16)… cigarettes a day. The same holds true for many

(17)… Russian cities.

Factories emit (18)… tons of harmful chemicals. These emissions have disastrous consequences for our planet. They are (19)… main reason for (20)… greenhouse effect and (21)… acid rains.

An even greater threat are (22)… nuclear power stations. We all know how tragic
