Ricky's letter

Boston

Massachusetts

USA

10 December 2010

Dear Sally,

Thanks for your last letter. It was great to hear from you!

You asked me to tell you about myself and my family. Well, I'm Ricky Crawford. I'm 13 years old and I'm from Boston. That's in the state of Massachusetts, America.

I've got a sister, Helen. She's sixteen years old. Helen and I live with our mom and dad. My grandparents live in California. Their names are Ben and Jenna.

We have got a big house. And we've got a cat. Her name's Kooky.

My parents have got great jobs. My mom is a writer and my dad is an actor. Well, that's my family.

Write me back about your pets if you have any. Is it difficult to look after your pet?

Someone's calling me. Write soon.

Love,

Ricky

Подпись автора (имя)

T: Here are the instructions of letter writing in Russian. Look through them and I'll explain how to write letters. Every letter starts with the place where a person who's writing a letter lives. First comes the name of a city or a town, then comes the name of a country. After that the date is written. Then we address the person we're writing with the word Dear and write his name (ex. Dear Sally, as in our letter). With the new paragraph we write the letter itself. We finish the letter with the word Love and write the name of a person who's written the letter (Love, Ricky) (на слайде выделяются части письма по мере объяснения).

T: Now look at Ricky's letter again and complete the table.

Date (10 December 2010)

… Sally,

Start of the letter: Dear

…, Ricky

End of the letter Love

T: One more letter. It's Sally's letter to Ricky. But the problem is that all the parts a mixed. We are to put all parts of the letter in the right order. Let's work in groups.

I was glad to get your letter. It's really great that your parents let you have a pet.

As for me, I've got a cat called Robbie and a dog called Britney. It's not difficult to look after them. I feed my pets and take them for a walk. I think cats and dogs are good pets.

Is your house big? Is there a garden around your house? If you say "yes", you may have a dog or a cat. Otherwise you'd better buy a hamster or a parrot as they don't need so much space.

Well, I've got to go now. Stay in touch!
