Aims:
To develop pupils' pronunciation in English.

I. Greeting
Teacher:

-Good afternoon children! I'm very glad to meet you today on our competition lesson.

- How are you for today?

- Today we shall speak with you about the most famous holidays and customs of English speaking countries. I hope that it will be interesting for you during our lesson. Good luck!

Introduction of teams

Manas: - Good afternoon dear teachers and quests! We are glad to see you!

Ayan: - Welcome to our competition «Holidays»! We ask our juries not to be critical and forgive our pupils'mistakes.

Manas:- Don't be too strict to us.

The first round of our competition is introduction of teams. Let me invite the teams: 1.«Halloween», 2.«Christmas», 3.«Valentine's Day».

P1. - Halloween is a very old tradition. Long ago people thought that on 31 st October spirits of the dead came back. That's why now some people dress in costumes as whitches and ghosts. They make Lamps of pumpkins . Halloween is one of the best holidays for children. Sometimes children go out in groups, knock on neighbours' doors and say «Trick or treat». They usually get a treat, some sweets or nuts. People also have Halloween parties where they often play games.

P2.- Christmas Day is celebrated on December 25. The traditional food is turkey, Christmas cake, Christmas pudding made of fruit. Candles at Christmas - their light helped people to forget the darkness of winter. Christmas Tree is in the living room at Christmas. A lot of people go to Trafalgar Square to see the Christmas tree. Santa Claus comes down the chimney and leaves presents in long socks.

P3.- St.Valentine's day is one of the favourite American Holidays is celebrated on February, 14. This holiday in honour of St.Valentine's - a martyr.It is the day of love and friendship. In this lovely day people of all ages exchange of ''valentines'. They send cards, gifts, sweets, flowers to people they love. They do not sign these cards.

Manas:- The second round is Questions-answers

Each team will put by 5 questions to each other. The team «Halloween» your questions, please.

«Halloween»:

  4. What is the capital of our country?

  5. What holiday do you know in Britain?

«Christmas»:

  1. What is the capital of England?

  2. How many states are there in America?

  3. What color is the flag of Kazakhstan?

  4. Who is the president of Kazakhstan?

  5. Who was the first president of America?

«Valentine's Day»:

  1. Who wrote the Adventure of T. Sawyer?

  2. What holiday celebrate people in Britain on December 31?

  3. Children in Britain dress in costumes and knock the doors. What holiday is this?

  4. What is your favorite holiday?

  5. What Holidays are celebrated in many countries in the world?

Ayan:-

Many people in Kazakhstan and Britain like a certain day in their life best of all. Now let's listen to the poem and answer the question: "What is the most favourite day in our life?"

Manas:- The next task is «Proverbs». You should translate proverbs from Russian into English!

Proverbs

Proverbs are written in the cards.


  1. A good beginning makes good ending.

  2. Better late than never.

  3. A friend in need is a friend indeed.

  4. East or West - home is best.

  5. As the tree, so the fruit.

  6. All's well that ends well.

Listening

Ayan: - The next part of our competition is listening. I shall describe different holidays, you must guess what holiday it is, if you know, raise your hand.

1) It is a religious holiday when Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. People go from house to house to sing Christmas carols.

2) On this day people go to the church. People eat eggs and hot cross buns.

3) It is a funny and scared tradition. Children play tricks and lit bonfires.

4) This American holiday is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. It is connected with American history.

5) People buy a tree and decorate it with toys, colored balls and lights. Children wake up early to find stockings full of small presents from Santa Clause.

RHYTHMIC PAUSE

Ayan:- Now we'll have a short rest. Stand up, please. Let's play our game "Head and shoulders:" (The pupils recite the poem together and show the parts of the body they name)

Conclusion

Manas: -Dear juries, put your marks to the costumes and newspapers too!

It's time to say results.

Teacher: - Our lesson is over. We've made so much today and as a

conclusion of our lesson I wish you be always happy! Study foreign

languages, not only English, and know traditions of foreign people,

because of its very interesting!

Let's say "Good-bye" to our guests.
