Pair 2: St. Valentine's Day is celebrated on the 14th of February. It is not a legal or national holiday. Banks and offices are not closed, but it is a happy little festival for young people. St Valentine is the patron of sweethearts. In that day people send cards, give red roses and presents to the people they love. Valentines are special greeting cards. They are often colored red and have pictures of hearts.

Pair 3: Britain celebrates a wonderful holiday. It is Mother`s Day. There is almost the same holiday on the 8th March in Russia. In Great Britain celebrate Mothering Sunday on the fourth Sunday of March. All the children and adults, come to their mothers, on that day to express their love. Flowers and cakes are the traditional gifts for all mothers in England.

Pair 4: In April there is Easter. Easter means spring, new life after winter, flowers, green trees and young animals. On Easter Sunday people usually go to church. At Easter children eat chocolate Easter eggs. Sometimes parents hide them in the house or in the garden and children have to look for them.

Pair 5: On the 31st of October there is a Halloween. British say ghosts and witches come out on Halloween. On the night of Halloween the children dress as ghosts and visit houses asking money or sweets. Another Halloween custom is to scrape out a pumpkin, cutting eyes, nose and mouth in its side and lighting a candle inside.

Pair 6: There is a special festival in Great Britain - Guy Fawkes Night. According to a calendar, the holiday falls on the 5th of November. On that Day in 1605, Guy Fawkes tried to kill King James I.
