Разработка урока:

«Modern inventions in everyday life» (11 класс)

(урок введения нового лексического материала с использованием ИКТ)

Цели урока:

  • Социокультурный аспект - расширение кругозора учащихся, знакомство с выдающимися изобретениями, а также с достижениями, которые используются в повседневной жизни.

  • Развивающий аспект - развитие способности к догадке, к сравнению и сопоставлению, способности к обобщению при овладении грамматическим явлением, к формированию выводов из прочитанного и услышанного, к планированию своего высказывания.

  • Воспитательный аспект - формирование чувства сопричастности к мировой культуре, воспитание уважения к чужому труду и творчеству, чувства гордости за достижения своих великих соотечественников.

  • Учебный аспект - развитие умения воспринимать на слух информацию в деталях, умения читать с детальным пониманием содержания; формирование навыков говорения, совершенствование грамматических навыков по теме "Gerund".

Ход урока

I. Приветствие. Организационный момент. Сообщение о целях урока.

T: Good morning, dear children! I'm glad to see you. Our lesson today is devoted to inventions that we use in everyday life. You'll learn a lot of useful information about inventions that have been made in science and technology recently. You also will improve your grammar skills, practice reading, speaking and listening.

II. Речевая разминка. Совершенствование речевых навыков.

T: Science is important to most people living in the modern world for a number of reasons. On the one hand, scientists have helped to develop many of the modern tools of war. On the other hand, they have also helped to keep the peace through research which has improved life for people. The inventions are changing the lifestyle of millions of people all over the world. What the most important inventions of the 20th century can you name?

(Possible answers: computer, TV, mobile phone…)

. III. Аудирование.

T: You'll listen to some people talking about things they use every day. What things are the members of the family talking about? (ex.1 p 220)

(Students listen to the cassette and answer the question. Then they read the text and check themselves).

T: Why do the members of the family like to have these things in the home?

Vocabulary work. Ex.2 p.221.

A camera to cut and collect the grass

A microwave oven to build up one's strength

A mobile telephone to wash the dishes

A video recorder to take photographs

A TV set to cook, defrost, reheat food

A mower to receive or make calls around the home

A body building machine to record a programme when watching another one

A dishwasher to have fun and to entertain

A vacuum cleaner to perform everyday cleaning tasks from vacuuming

A talking alarm clock to not only sew but do embroidery and applique

A computer to wake up people and say the time

A cordless phone to watch pre-recorded videos

A sewing machine to send and receive urgent messages

A solar powered calculator to operate the TV set from distance

A fax machine to write programmes, find and use information

An electronic game to do calculations in sunlight

A videophone

Roller blades

A TV remote-control unit

  1. Repeat the words all together

  2. Try to guess the meaning

  3. Explain, please, why people use these gadgets and machines and how often people use this or that thing?

IV. Говорение.

  1. Ex.2(3) p.222

(Students do the task working in small groups, then they share ideas with the class. Students make a list of the things which are the most or least useful at home from their point of view).

  1. T: What are the names of some more machines and gadgets often found in the home and office?

Ex.1 p.74 (Activity book)

What are these machines and gadgets used for?

  1. Ex.4 p.223.

Which of the things have you got at home? Which one do you think you need? What for?

V. Активизация грамматического материала.

Now, let's revise our grammar material. Gerund V-ing

AB p.74 ex.2,3

(example: A mower is for cutting and collecting the grass. Etc..)

Extra exercises to consolidate the grammar skills.

  1. Put the verb in brackets into correct form, gerund or infinitive.

You cannot live without (do) such stupid things.

Try to avoid (lose) your temper.

It's no use (cry) over spilt milk.

They were advised (take) a packed lunch.

If you want (lose) weight, try (eat) less.

I'm not keen on (work) late.

He managed (calm) her by promising to return soon.

In Arabia the usual way of (travel) is by camel.


  1. Choose the form of the Participle in each sentence.

I don't find this story (amusing/ amused).

I wouldn't stay at home after such a (tiring/tired) day.

Can you smell something (burning/burned).

She had rather a (pleasing/pleased) look on her face.

When (answering/answered) your question yesterday I forgot this fact.

I didn't enjoy the party because I was (boring/bored) there.

She didn't pay any attention to the (ringing/rung) telephone.

Can you think of the name of an animal( beginning/begun) with "B"?


VI. Совершенствование навыков чтения и перевода.

Reading for specific information . (R, Unit 7, ex.1)

Different people have different opinions about gadgets. Read the interview from the "Young Telegraph" with a person who has her own opinion about gadgets and answer the questions.

VII. Подведение итогов урока. Объяснение домашнего задания. Рефлексия учащихся.

Let's summarize everything we've learned today. As you know, invention is a new and useful machine or piece of work. Inventions can change the way you live.

Thank you for your work today. Your home task is to complete the word puzzle. Find the mystery word number 11, another modern invention. ( AB unit 7 ex.4 p 75 ). Is everything clear? The lesson is over. Bye!
