Now let's begin our lesson. Open your books and copy- books and write down today's date and the new theme «Countable and uncountable nouns »

In English grammar, words that refer to people, places or things are called nouns. They can be classified in many ways.

One way to classify nouns is according the whether they can be counted or not.

Countable nouns - are words which can be counted. They have a singular form and plural form. Most countable nouns become plural by adding an « s » at the end of the word.

Uncountable nouns - are words which cannot be counted. They only have a singular form. They have now plural forms.

Countable nouns are easy to recognize. They are things we can count.

For example: "pen" We can count pens. We can have one, two, three or more pens.

(dog, cat, animal, man, person)

We can use the indefinite article a/an with countable nouns.

We cannot count "milk". We can count "bottles of milk" or "litres of milk " but we can not count "milk" itself. Here are some more uncountable nouns: music, art, love, happiness, information, news, rice, sugar, water, gas, money.

"Doctor Sandford's House"

Doctor Sandford's house is not large, but it is comfortable and well - planned. It is a small two - storeyed cottage.

In front of the house there is a green lawn and a lot of flowers. Behind it there is a little orchard with a few fruit trees in it. On the ground floor there is a kitchen, a pantry, a dining- room, a cosy sitting-room and Dr. Sandford's study. There are also several rooms upstairs on the first floor: the Sandford's bedrooms, Grandmother's room, which is also Benny's nursery, Betty's room and the bathroom.

The furniture is modern and quite new. But Doctor Sandford says he must pay a lot of money for the house and the furniture.He must pay the money for many years before he can call the house his own.
