INDEFINITE PRONOUNS,

Exercise 1. Insert somebody, anybody, nobody, something, anything, nothing,

1.I heard … sing in the street. 2. Where can I get ... to eat? 3. The room was empty. We saw ... in that room. 4. There is ... in the next room who wants to speak to you. 5. Have you read . . . about it in the newspapers? 6. ... can understand this text: it is so easy. 7. ... can understand this text: it is so difficult. 8.I haven't heard . . . about it. 9. ... is knocking at the door. 10. Is there ... at home? 11. Is there ... in that box? 12. ... must go there at once.

Exercise 2. Substitute somebody or anybody in place of Mary and John. Remember that somebody and anybody are singular in their meaning.

Model. Mary and John have opened the door. Somebody has opened the

door.

1. Mary and John are in the room. 2. Do Mary and John have a very fast car? 3. Mary and John are singing a song. 4. Mary and John have closed the window. 5. Are Mary and John knocking at the door? 6. Mary and John are dancing in the hall. 7, Do Mary and John like apples? 8. Mary and John are playing chess. 9. Do Mary and John speak German? 10. Mary and John are listening to the radio.

Exercise 3. Answer the following questions. Give short negative answers in ",no form.

Model. What are you doing? - Nothing.

1. What grows in your garden? 2. Who came this morning? 3. What are you doing? 4. Who knows this man?

Exercise 4, Translate into English.

1. Кто-то не закрыл дверь. 2. Вы принесли что-нибудь почитать? 3. Мы никого не видели в саду. 4. Я никому не сказал об этом. 5. Вы кому-нибудь сказали об этом? 6. Любой может это сделать. 7. Кто-то поет в соседней комнате. 8. Я ничего об этом не знаю. 9. На столе что-то лежит. 10. Дайте мне поесть. 11. На столе лежит чья-то книга. 12. Есть ли что-нибудь в этом ящике? 13.
