Тема урока: « Электронный мусор и экология.»

Задачи:

Практические - научить учащихся делать презентации;

- обучать учащихся навыкам работы в команде.

Образовательные - совершенствовать лексические и грамматические навыки по теме;

- сформировать навыки и умения учащихся делать обобщения.

- расширить знания учащихся о проблемах экологии в связи с накоплением

электронного мусора и способов решения этих проблем.

Развивающие - Развивать творческие и эстетические навыки учащихся, приучать их к поисково-

аналитическим принципам работы при создании проектов и презентаций.

Воспитательные - повышать уровень самооценки учащихся, совершенствуя их умения и навыки

работы в интернете и подготовки проектов и презентаций на английском языке;

- формировать навыки самообразования, поддерживать интерес к английскому

языку и информатике.

Планируемые результаты :

Развитие личности - совершенствование духовно-нравственных качеств личности, развитие

мотива учебной деятельности, навыков сотрудничества.

Метапредметные результаты - умение активно использовать речевые средства, осознанное

построение речевого высказывания в устной речи, умение слушать собеседника,

определять в совместной деятельности цели и способы их достижения,

распределения функций и ролей, умения договариваться, осуществлять

совместный контроль.

The teacher of English: Good morning, students! Glad to see you again. I hope, you are fine and get ready for learning English today, don't you?

The teacher: Look at the blackboard. In his BOOK OF SCIENCE AND QUOTATIONS Isaac Asimov in 1988 wrote:

" The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom".

The teacher: Well, thank you for your sharing. Thus, society should be very wise and know how to use all scientific inventions properly and what to do with them after they have become outdated. This is the theme of today's lesson. One more very important point of our lesson is ecology and its problems. Some of them are closely connected with outdated gadgets and devices. Can you guess how they affect the ecology if people simply throw them away? Could you share your ideas?

The teacher: Good for you, you are very bright today. Well, watch the video and try to catch the idea of what the e-waste is and why it is dangerous for the environment You are going to discuss it in the teams and make the summary of it.

The teacher: So, what is e-waste?

Why should we speak about it?

What is the danger of e-waste to any society?

What are the typical recycled products?

What benefits of e-waste recycling process have you known after watching the video?

The teacher: Well, work in teams and prepare the summary of the video you have just watched. You are given 2 minutes.


The students' answers may be:

/ All things considered, we have come to the conclusion that all people, young and old, should think what to do with the wastes to keep the environment clean and not to do harm to the society. The solution of the problem is to learn how to reduce the amount of useless things and devices repairing them or donating them to those who need them. Then, people should know how they can recycle all these wastes or, at least, how to use them again. Thus, reduce, reuse, recycle!That's the main idea of the film./

/ We think, the main idea of what we have just seen is to teach us how we can help the society to solve the problem of getting rid of litter and other wastes. We should remember of three R-s: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle./

The teacher: All right, well done. Let's do some exercises concerning the effect of modern technology on our society. Work in Pairs.

  1. We can communicate with friends whenever we need to much more quickly than sending them messages or calling them on phones. - It surely saves us a lot of time, money and makes the communication much more pleasant.

  2. To begin with, online shopping can be a lot more convenient than shopping in the normal way. - But the matter is it is not secure sometimes.

  3. We can find information, pictures, services and other resources on the Internet very quickly and easily. - It's right, but it makes people be lazier and less movable, that is not healthy for them…

The teacher of English: Good for you, you are working hard today. Relax a little, look at the joke on p.67. Read it and say if it's true or not, make dialogues:

The teacher of English: You are working hard. And now the question is "What can we do about the problem of e-waste?"

Well, friends, I know that you have prepared some projects on the topic "Technology" in teams. You are welcome, be bolder and do your best to make your presentations.

ROLE-PLAYING

In the corner there is a landfill of outdated devices, appliances and gadgets. Opposite there is a chemical laboratory. :

Characters - people and journalists, scientists

A: Hi! What's up? What has happened? What is it?

People.: There is a landfill of outdated devices and gadgets. Look how numerous they are here!

B: Why are they here? Have they become useless? Have they broken down?

People: Oh no, not all of them, some may be broken down, of course. The matter is that technology advances at a faster pace every year. Appliences and gadgets quickly become outdated and people throw more of them away.

A Journalist: And little by little landfills become higher and higher. There is something to do!

People: You are right, that's why we have gathered together here. Let it be our action for the GREEN WORLD. / slogans/

A Journalist: Let it be! Let's invite scientists! Oh, here they are! You are welcome! We are glad to see you. We have got a lot of questions to you and need your support in our action. First of all, is the so called e-waste very bad and dangerous?

Scientist1: As you know, e-waste contains over a thousand chemicals, many of them are very toxic.

People: How can it affect the people?

Scientist2: Very badly. Most of e-waste currently finishes in landfills and heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, chromium and mercury gradually leak into the soil and can cause great harm on prople. They can fall ill or even die,

A Journalist: How about burning e-waste?

Scientist3: To tell the truth, some e-waste is burnt, but this releases toxic gases into the air and it's not well either because it pollutes the environment.

A Journalist: And what happens when e-waste is simply dumped in landfills?

Scientist1: Oh, you see, in this case it can emit poisonous fumes and the soil is also polluted with dangerous chemicals. It can affect badly the food chain.

A Journalist: And what can the government do to improve the situation?

Scientist2: Fortunately, all is not lost! Some progress has been already made in this direction. A lot of countries have set up environmental protection agencies. Manufacturers are starting to encourage more recycling and reduce the chemical they use. Moreover, many countries have signed treaties to stop the exporting of e-waste to other countries.

A Journalist: Thanks, and what about the people? What can they do personally to prevent the dangerous situation?

People: Well, I think, we shouldn't replace our equipment so often. We also should go to the so-called 'recycling bank' where a computer technician could reuse the components in our old computers or other devices

People altogether: And finally, clean and green is our perfect dream. So, don't trash our future! RECYCLE!

And make the world the better place!

Let TECHNOLOGY advance at faster pace!

But keep the place for old things,

Don't throw gadgets away,

Address your mind to get them repaired

The Teacher: Well done. The problem of recycling is very important nowadays. You have come to the proper solution of it, it should be the action of all peoples and governments of the world. People must take care of their future and the future of the planet they live on. At home you should write what you are going to do if your gadgets break down one day. Use the form A4 and add your work into your Portfolio.

You have done a great work and are very active and bright today. Now you know what 3R-s mean, don't you? What can you personally do?
