1. Christmas is the happiest and the busiest time of the year for British people. It's the day of birth of Jesus Chris. People celebrate this holiday on 25^th of December. Most families have a Christmas tree in their homes. The Christmas tree is originated in Germany in the 16^th century. A traditional Christmas dinner in early England was the head of a pig prepared with mustard. It was usually followed by roast peacock.

2. The feast has its roots in the Celtic New years Eve called Samhain. On October 31 children wear masks and colorful costumes. The most popular costumes are ghosts, witches, and skeletons. Traditional Halloween colours: orange and black. Popular decorations are witches, ghosts, skeletons, black cats and jack-o-lanterns. Jack-o-lanterns are pumpkins people carve to look like faces. Everyone tries to look scary on Halloween.

3. This holiday dates back to the ancient Roman times. Valentine was a Roman priest who was put into prison by the Emperor Claudis for marrying young people. We send greeting cards to our sweet-hearts and friends and ask them to «Be My Valentine». This means «be my friend or love». We also decorate our classrooms with big red roses and chocolate to sweethearts, friends and family.

There are many holidays in Great Britain. I'd like to tell you about one of them. On 14. February people celebrate Saint Valentine's Day. On this day a boy sends a card to a girl he likes. But he doesn't sign his name so she doesn't know who it's from. And kids sometimes send cards to their parents. Adults often send flowers, poems and love messages. The symbol of this day is a red heart.

No one really knows the true origin of this holiday.

There are many holidays in Great Britain. I'd like to tell you about one of them. Halloween is celebrated on October 31. in Britain. The Celts were the first to celebrate this holiday, which was their feast of the dead. It is a time for playing tricks and practical jokes. Adults and children go from house to house asking for sweets. If the owner doesn't give them a treat, they will play a trick on him. The symbol of this day is a jack-o-lantern.
