Teacher: You see the topic of our lesson is: "Welcome to London". (слайд 1) Do you want to do an excursion to London?

Students: Yes! Of course!

Teacher: Have a look at the map of London. (слайд 2) First a few words about the city. London is the capital of the United Kingdom. It is one of the largest cities of the world. It is situated on the river Thames. London is more than two thousand years old. The most famous sights of London are: Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abby, the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Tower Bridge and Tower of London.

Teacher: I think we'll begin our excursion from the central square of London - Trafalgar Square (слайд 3).

Trafalgar Square is the most beautiful place in London. There is a tall column in the middle of the square. It is a monument to Admiral Nelson. Four bronze lions look at the square from the monument. On the left you can see the National Gallery, the main building of Trafalgar Square. It has a fine collection of European paintings.

Teacher: And now we are going (making our way) to Buckingham Palace.

Look right. (слайд 4)

This is Hyde Park. In the park anyone can stand up and say what they want.

Now we are at Buckingham Palace. (слайд 5) Perhaps

Perhaps anyone of you can say about this famous place.

Student 1: As I know it is the London home of the Queen. When the flag is flying on the top. She is at home. It is a wonderful building with a monument in front of it. It is the Queen Victoria Memorial. The ceremony of the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace is a great tourist attraction. It happens every day at 11:30 a.m.

Teacher: Thank you for interesting information. In a moment you will see Westminster Abbey. (слайд6)

It is one of the most famous and beautiful churches in London. It is very old too. It is more than nine hundred years old. There are so many monuments and statues there. It is royal church. Many English kings and queens are buried there.

Student 2: In front of you there is a long grey building. Look at its towers. They are the Houses of Parliament. (слайд 7) The Houses of Parliament is the seat of the British Parliament. And what is it in one of the towers? (студент показывает на часы Биг Бен)

Teacher: That is Big Ben. (слайд 8) Big Ben is one of the most famous clocks in the world. In fact, it is not the name of the clock (on the Tower of Westminster), but it is the nickname of the bell inside. The clock and the bell got their names after Sir Benjamin Hall. He was a tall man, whose nickname was Big Ben. So people know the clock as Big Ben.

Student3 : Thanks. Now we are crossing Tower Bridge (слайд 9) over the river Thames. On the right bank of the Thames you can see the Tower of London.(слайд 10) It is nine hundred years old. It was a fortress, a royal palace and later a prison. The Tower of London is a museum now. Who can tell about (history of) this interesting place (else)?

Student 4: In the early days of the history of England the English kings lived here. Then it was a prison where many people died. Black ravens had much food near the walls of the tower in those years. The ravens are another famous sight. The legend says that without them the Tower will fall. The English people like them very much. A man looks after the ravens and gives them food in the morning and in the evening.
