Teacher: Good afternoon, boys and girls! Welcome to our Halloween Party!

Today you'll see a mini-show which is devoted to the popular holiday «Halloween». In Europe the night of the ghosts and witches was combined with the Christian holiday. As that night fell on October 31, people called it Halloween. The word itself, "Halloween," actually has its origins in the Catholic Church.

It's Halloween

(by Jack Prelutsky)

It's Halloween! It's Halloween!

The moon is full and bright

And we shall see what can't be seen

On any other night:

Skeletons and ghosts and ghouls,

Grinning goblins fighting duels,

Werewolves rising from their tombs,

Witches on their magic brooms.

In masks and gowns we haunt the street

And knock on doors for trick or treat.

Tonight we are the king and queen,

For oh tonight it's Halloween!

(31 қазан) ескі ағылшын тілінде «All Hallows Even» немесе «All Hallows Eve» («Барлық әулиелер кеші») деп аталған.

I student: Now, it's time to say rhymes.

I student: Welcome to "Shugar free dance".

I student: Well, now we know that witches fly on their brooms, and what about Jack - O' - Lantern?

The jack-o-lantern, most typical of Halloween symbols, began with the Irish. According to legend a man named Jack was expelled from Hell for playing tricks on the devil. He was to walk the earth forever carrying a lantern to light his way waiting for Judgment Day.

Modern jack-o-lanterns are made from big orange pumpkins.

Look, here it is. (Jack - O' - Lantern appears)

II student: (31 қазан) ескі ағылшын тілінде «All Hallows Even» немесе «All Hallows Eve» («Барлық әулиелер кеші») деп аталған.

Jack-O-Lantern

Jack-o-lantern

Jack-o-lantern, Jack-o-lantern, (Джек-фонарь, Джек-фонарь)

you are such a funny sight

As you sit there by the window,

looking out at the night (глядя в ночь)

You were once a sturdy pumpkin

growing on a vine

Now you are a Jack-o-lantern,

see the light shine

Pumpkins.

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate.
The first one said, "Oh my, it's getting late."
The second one said, " There are witches in the air."
The third one said, "But we don't care!"
The fourth one said, "Let's run and run and run!"
The fifth one said, "I'm ready for some fun."
Ooooooo ooo went the wind and out went the light,
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

I student: Now I suggest that you should guess my riddles.

She always flies on her magic broom,
She always flies around the moon
With a black hat on her head
And what do you think, who is that?
(a witch)

It means bad luck, don't look at it
If it crosses your path
And what do you think we call it?
(a black cat)

In masks and gouns we haunt the street
And knock on doors for trick or treat
Tonight we are the king and queen
For all tonight is ………..
(Halloween)

Sometimes big and sometimes small
But always round and yellow
When the children make my famous grin
Then I'm a scary fellow
(Jack - O' - Lantern)

I am a big and round
Once upon a time I grew on the ground
Now I have a mouth, 2 eyes and a nose
Who am I do you suppose?
(pumpkin)

I see a friendly shining moon
As big and round as a balloon
Soon I will go out on the street
With my friend for our ………….
(trick - or - treat)

I student: "Skeleton dance".

I student: Do you believe in good luck and bad luck? Most people in the world have some superstitions. These are a few British superstitions.

GOOD LUCK-

1. Black cats are lucky. -

2. Catch falling leaves in autumn and you will have good luck. Every leaf means a lucky month in the next year.- Күзді күні тал басынан түскен жапырақты ұстап алған адамның келесі жылы сәттілікке толы болады.

3. If you see two magpies(сороки), you`ll be happy.

1. Never open an umbrella in the house.-

2. Never break a mirror-that means 7 years bad luck.

3. The number 13 is very unlucky (and Friday the 13th is very unlucky date).13

5. Don `t walk under a ladder

I student: The celebration of All Saints Day or just Halloween takes place on October 31 st. The tradition of Halloween began in the fifth century B.C. This day the Irish Celts celebrated their New year at that time, because they organized their year according to the agricultural calendar and marked the tradition from one year to the next on October 31.

And now let's see the play "The Wonderful Spell". (by Irena Erokhina)

The Wonderful Spell

CHARACTERS: Witch (or Wizard), Mouse, Bear, Butterfly, Panther, Parrot, Bat, Ant, Snake

Scene One

The room in Witch's house. On the table there are some bottles with stickers A, B, C, E, M on them.

Witch: Hello! I am a Witch. I am a very good Witch. Look! I have many bottles.

Bottles on the table,

Bottles on the floor,
Bottles on the shelves,
One, two, three, four…

And in the bottles there are spells. Magic spells! I can turn you into ants! So I take this bottle with "A". I can turn you into elephants. So I take this bottle with "E". I can turn you into monkeys. So I take this bottle with "M". Oh, this bottle has no label. I wonder what sort of spell this is. (Knock-knock-knock) Go away! I am busy!

Mouse: Excuse me, please. I want to buy a bottle of spell.

Witch: What's the matter?

Mouse: I'm very tired of being a mouse. Nobody likes mice. Cats catch us. It's not a very happy life. I don't want to be a mouse.

Witch: What do you want to be?

Mouse: I don't know. (Looking at the bottles around him) But I think I can choose one of them.

Witch: No, you can't. I must tidy my shelves and I am very busy. So come back tomorrow… (Mouse becomes sad and is going out) Stop! Well, you can take this one.

Mouse: Oh, thanks. But there isn't any label on it. What will it turn me into?

Witch: That's what you need.

Mouse: Thank you. Goodbye!

Witch: Bye!

Scene Two

Mouse's house. He puts the bottle on the table

Mouse: Now I am going to open this bottle. But let me think! What shall I be? A butterfly, perhaps? (Butterfly comes in)

Butterfly:

Butterfly, butterfly,
Where do you fly?
So quick and so high
In the blue, blue sky?

Mouse: Yes, you are very nice. But butterflies don't live very long. No, I wouldn't like to be a butterfly. Well, what shall I be? A bat, perhaps? (Bat comes in)

Bat:

I am a bat, my wings are black,
I fly across the moon.
Perhaps I'll show you how to fly
At night, it's coming soon.

Mouse: Very well. You look like a mouse. But you are too black. And you sleep upside down. I like to sleep in my pretty bed! No, I don't want to be a bat! So I can be…I can be…a parrot, perhaps? (Parrot comes in)

Parrot:

I am a parrot, a parrot, a parrot.
I can fly and walk-walk-walk.
I have a tongue-tongue-tongue
And I can talk-talk-talk.

Mouse: Oh, you are very nice!

Parrot: Very nice, very nice, very nice…

Mouse: You can talk!

Parrot: Can talk, can talk, can talk…

Mouse: But you talk too much!

Parrot: Too much, too much, too much…

Well, what can I do? Let me think… Every animal has many problems. Do you have problems?

All animals: Yes, we do.

Mouse: And to be a mouse is not so bad.

All animals: Not so bad!

Mouse: Now I know what to do. (Takes the bottle. All go out)

Scene Three

Witch's house

Mouse: Good evening!

Witch: Evening! Has my spell changed you?

Mouse:

Yes, it's changed me. Yesterday I was…
Yesterday I was a very unhappy mouse
Today I am, today I am a very happy mouse.
I love my friends, I like my house,
I like to be a mouse!

Witch: Great! Now I see that I am a real witch! I am happy!

Mouse: I am happy!

All: We are happy!

If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands".

If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands
If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands
If you're happy and you know it
And you really want to show it
If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands
If you're happy and you know it, snap your fingers
If you're happy and you know it, snap your fingers
If you're happy and you know it
And you really want to show it
If you're happy and you know it, snap your fingers
If you're happy and you know it, stamp your feet
If you're happy and you know it, stamp your feet
If you're happy and you know it
And you really want to show it
If you're happy and you know it, stamp your feet

II student: The history of "Trick'O'Treating" can be traced back to the early celebrations of All Soul's Day in Britain. The poor would go begging and the housewives would give them special treats called "soulcakes". This was called "going a-souling", and the "soulers" would promise to say a prayer for the dead.

Over time the custom changed and the town's children became the beggars. As they went from house to house they would be given apples, buns, and money.

Some people think that this led to asking for treats on Halloween in verses or rhymes. Such as:

Deal out, Deal out,

Treat

(by Jack Prelutsky)

Trick or treat, trick or treat,

Give us something good to eat.

Give us candy, give us cake,

Give us something sweet to take.

Give us cookies, fruit and gum,

Hurry up and give us some.

You had better do it quick

Or we'll surely play a trick.

Trick or treat, trick or treat,

Give us something good to eat.

Game 1

Now it's time to play. Let's start with the most famous and popular game "Bobbing for Apples"

I student: " Ghosts and devils " dance.

I hope you have had great fun tonight. I'm sure you have learnt a lot about Halloween traditions and symbols and practiced in speaking English.
