Let's start our work. I'd like to say that today's lesson is special and unusual because of the problem. The problem concerns some languages. In order to be well-rounded, proficient, efficient and fluent person, you must learn much about languages: foreign and mother tongue. So the theme of our lesson is "All different- all alike". What languages will we speak about? I want to suggest you English, Russian, Kalmyk, German and French. First of all, let's compare them. Look at the board! I think, that all these languages have much in common. Do you think so?

All languages have rules. The rules have exceptions. More over, all have nouns, verbs and adjectives. I'd like to tell you that there are ways of showing present, past and future time in every language. F.e. in Russian there are 3 tenses, in English - 12 tense forms. All languages have ways of making questions. Besides, there are 4 kinds of questions: general, special, alternative and tag-questions. In all languages there are ways of making negative and positive statements. And every language has cases: Russian -6, English - 2, French -3. To sum up, all languages are alike but at the same time, each has its own features.

Could you say what features does every language have? ( Possible answers: in pronunciation, popularity, difficulty etc.)

Ok, so I want you to divide into small groups. Let's do it in such way. Here are some proverbs in Kalmyk, English, German and Russian. You should find equivalents. In each group there will be 4 people.

1 group: East or west, home is best.

Ost, West, zu Hause best.

Күлг иҗлән хәәдг, күн һазран сандг.

В гостях хорошо, а дома лучше.

2 group: Knowledge is power.

Wissen ist Macht.

Чидл чилдг, медрл чилдго.

Знание- сила.

3 group: A man is known by the company he keeps.

Sage mir, wer dein Freund ist, und ich sage dir, wer du bist.

Күүг өөрәрнь шинжлдг.

Скажи, кто твой друг и я скажу, кто ты.

4 group: Time is the best doctor.

Die Zeit ist der beste Arzt.

Цаг-эмч.

Время лечит.

So, read your proverbs to each other, please. You did this task very well. Now, the next task is to act out the dialogues. You can talk in Kalmyk, French, German, English. You should greet each other, ask what your name is, how you are, then say about your love and finally say good buy. Clear? Ok! Choose any sheet of paper you like. You may think a little. Are you ready? Let's start.

You spoke different languages so fluently! Well done! And now I ask you to stand up and make a circle. We will throw a ball and say any word you like, and who catches a ball say it in another language. Let's take some easy words. F.e. die Mutter, der Fater, love and so on.

Well! You may take your seats! Now let's sing a song! This song is known all over the world, it is the symbol of love, peace and family. Let's sing it in German and in English.
