Aims

to revise jobs & writing practice

to teach how to form English nouns

Procedure

1. T put SS into 2 groups. SS write the date in their copybooks and then, they have running dictation in groups. Each group report back to class. (Words for dictation are 10 names of professions. They are red, blue and green according to their formation.) (10 minutes)

2. How to form English nouns? What is special about red/blue/green words? SS draw the table of Noun formation in their copybooks and write down some examples from the board. (The words in the table are taken from running dictation.) (5 minutes)

3. SS in groups. Each group complete their column in the table. For example, one group form nouns with suffixes -or/-er (card Verbs), the other make noun pairs (card Noun marriages). NEW NOUNS ARE NOT ONLY PROFESSIONS! (10 minutes)

4. Class mingle activity. SS from different groups teach each other to form English nouns. (5 minutes)

5. T gets SS to look at images and elicits new nouns. Then T elicits grammar how to form nouns. (7 minutes)

6. At home, SS work with English-Russian dictionary and find not less than 6-8 nouns formed with suffixes -or/-er and noun pairs. Write them in the appropriate column of Noun formation table in their copybooks. (3 minutes)
