Обобщающий урок-презентация в 6 классе по теме:

"Australia".

Цель урока: обобщение и углубление знаний по теме.

Задачи урока:

1. Повторение изученного материала.

2. Формирование навыков монологической речи.

3. Развитие навыков аудирования.

Познавательная задача: учащиеся познакомятся со страноведческим материалом из Интернета, которого нет в учебнике.

Развивающая задача: развитие навыков монологической речи и способностей к анализу и синтезу, развитие логического мышления и языковой догадки.

Учебная задача: работа, направленная на овладение такими видами речевой деятельности как говорение и аудирование.

Воспитательная задача: повышение мотивации к изучению английского языка, воспитание уважения к культуре и традициям другой страны.

Языковая задача: лексика по теме "Australia", взятая из учебника и из Интернета, монологические высказывания по теме.

Ход урока:

Good morning boys and girls. I am glad to see you. Today we are having an unusual lesson. It is a presentation of the additional material taken from the Internet on the topic "Australia". We'll learn a lot of interesting things about the discovery of Australia, its native people Aborigines, about largest cities and the population and about political system. Let`s dived into 2 groups. The 1-st group is Dingoes, and the 2-nd group is Kangaroo. I`ll give you 2 min.be ready with your mottoes.

Do you know that Australia is an English-speaking country? Do you know that it is on the other side of the world? Sometimes Australia is called "Upside down World" why? Because it lies in the Southern Hemisphere.

Let's begin our lesson. Now who can tell about the discovery of Australia? (Слайд 4)

The east coast of Australia was discovered by Captain James Cook. In 1770 he landed south of present day Sydney in New South Wales, raised the British flag and claimed this part of the land as a British Colony. It was then first used as a colony for convicts.In 1851 gold was discovered about 300 km west of Sydney. People rushed to the gold fields to find their fortunes. This is attracted robbers called bushrangers.

• The Commonwealth of Australia is a federal state within the Commonwealth. Australia is situated south of Asia, between the Pacific and Indian oceans. Australia is a continent, a country and an island in the same time. Its territories are the continent of Australia, the island of Tasmania and a number of smaller islands. It has an area of about 8 million square kilometers. It is located in the Southern Hemisphere.

• The continent of Australia is mostly a great plain with mountains in the east and south-east. The western part of the continent forms a plateau which occupies half of the continent. The greatest rivers are the Murray and the Darling

• Australia has several different climatic regions, from warm to subtropical and tropical. The climate in the west is very dry and more than half of Australia gets very little rain. In the south-west and east the winds bring rain in winter.

The tropical forests in the north and north-east are displaced by savanna or grassland. In the south-east and on the sides of the mountains there are forests of eucalyptus and other evergreen trees. There are two hot deserts in the central and western parts of the continent the Great Sandy Desert, the Great Victoria Desert.

1. It is supposed that Australia's native inhabitants, the Aborigines, arrived in Australia at least 40,000 years ago. The first Europeans visited the shores of Australia in 1606.

2.At the end of the 18^th century there were 300 000 aborigines in the country. 2. There are now only 40 000 full aborigines who live mainly in the tropical and deserts areas.

3.For a long time they have been a dying nation but their living conditions are improving.

4. The aborigines love music. They sing and play their instruments and dance. When they dance they put colours on their faces, arms and legs.

1.There are five big cities in Australia: Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane. Each city is the capital of the state in which it is situated.

Sydney is the capital of New South Wales. It is the leading industrial city with the population of about 3,000,000 people.

Melbourne is the capital of Victoria. It is the world's most livable city. It has about 3,000,000 people.

Brisbane is the capital of Queensland. It is a year-round vocation place. The population is about 1,400,000 people

2. Adelaide is the capital of South Australia. It is a pretty and industrial city. The population is 1,100,000 people.

Perth is the capital of Western Australia. It is a one of the best climates in Australia. Its population is 1,200,000 people.

Hobart is the capital of island-state Tasmania. Its population is about 200,000 inhabitants.

What do you know about Government and the Parliament .(Слайд 14-18

1. The Commonwealth of Australia is a self-governing federal state and a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. Formally the head of the state is the Queen of England represented by the Governor-General. The Commonwealth of Australia consists of 6 states and 2 territories: New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, the Federal Capital Territory and the Northern Territory. The Capital Territory is the land around the Federal Capital, Canberra is the capital of Australia. It is a very young city. The population is about 310,000 people

2. Australia has a parliament in each state and the Federal Parliament of the Commonwealth at Canberra. The Federal Parliament consists of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Federal government of the country is headed by the Prime Minister.

The political parties represented in the Parliament are the Australian Labour Party, the Liberal Party of Australia and the National Agrarian Party.

Australian national flag consists of five white stars of the Southern Cross and the large seven-pointed Commonwealth star (which represents the six states and the Territories) on a blue background with a Union Jack. The small Union Jack represents the historical link with Britain.

1. Australia is the home of two of the world's most primitive mammals - the Duckbill or platypus and the echidna or spiny anteater. They are the only mammals that lay eggs.

2. The kangaroo is the best known of Australia's animals. There are more then 40 different kinds of kangaroo in Australia, in many different colours and size. The big red kangaroo and the grey kangaroo may be as tall as a grown-up man.

3. Another well-known Australia's animal is the koala. It spends most of its life in eucalyptus trees and eats only the leaves of these trees.

Among other animals found in Australia is the Dingo, a wild dog. It is a yellowish brown and has a bushy tail.

The emu, Australia's largest bird is also one of the largest in the world. It cannot fly but is a good runner.

Another curious bird is the kookaburra. The bushy country rings with its laughter. Australians like this bird so much.

THE UNKNOWN SOUTHERN LAND.

Even in medieval times there were stories about a large continent in the Southern Hemisphere. But Europeans had never seen it. They wondered what it was like and whether it was inhabited. They called this land terra austral is incognita, or «the unknown southern land» - Australia.

Nowadays when people speak of Australia they can mean 3 things: Australia as 1)a continent 2)an island 3)an independent country. Australia is the world's largest island and its smallest continent. Asia is the continent nearest to Australia in the north. The icy shores of Antarctica lie in the south. New Zeland is to the east. To the west of Australia stretches the vast Indian Ocean. In the east the continent is washed by the Pacific Ocean.

Australia is a land of striking difference. In the center of the continent and in the west more than 50% of the land is desert - dry and uninhabited. There are 3 deserts there - the Great Sandy Desert, the Great Victoria Desert and the Gibson Desert, situated between them. Naturaly very few people live there. Most of them live on narrow coasts of the east and south-east. Main cities, where people live among tall office buildings, automobile plants and busy factories, are also situated there.

In the north-east tropical forests cover the coasts. In the mountains of south-east the snow lies for 7 month of the year.

Australia is divided into 6 states and 2 territories.

New South Wales is Australia's leading state. Most people live along the east coast, and most of them are in Sydney. Sydney is also the largest city in Australia.

In Victoria most people live in the south. Melbourne is the capital of the state and the largest city. Sheep and wheat are the main products here. Citrous fruits, grapes, peaches, and apricots are grown along the Murray River.

Queensland is Australia's 2nd largest state. Brisbane, its capital, situated on the east coast. Queensland has long sandy beaches. Its coasts is a popular place for holiday-makers. The climate along the east coast is hot and humid. It is the tropical corner of Australia. Bananas and other tropical fruits are grown here. Most of the land in the south is too dry for farming. Some of Australia's most unproductive desert lands occupy the bigger part of the state.

The state of Western Australia is dry and inhospitable except the south- western corner of the state. Nearly al of the state's farms, sheep stations and fruit gardens are situated here. The rest of the state is dry desert land with very few towns or lonely cattle stations.

South Australia is the 3rd largest state. Most of the South Australia's people, farms and industry are situated in the south-eastern part of the state. Adelaide is the capital and the largest city. Most of the South Australia is too dry for farming. Farming very much depends on irrigation or underground water. Some of Australia's most unproductive deserts lands occupy the greater part of the state .Wheat and fruit are grown along the lower part of the Murray River.

Tasmania, the island state, is sometimes called the apple isle because it produces most Australia's apples. Tasmania is one of the few places in Australia that have enough rain all year. Tasmania is Australia's leading produce of pears and berries of different kinds. Potatoes are also grown in some areas.

Northern Territory is the least populated and least developed part of Australia. Crocodiles still live in some of swamps along the coast. Darwin is its capital and the largest settlement in the north. Alice Springs, generally called Alice or the Alice, is the only town in the south.

The capital of Australia is Canberra. The city doesn't belong to any state. It is situated in the Australian Capital Territory, which occupies an area of 2,432 square kilometers.

I think most of you would like to visit Australia. Give 3 reasons, why you would like to go there.

1. I would like to visit Australia to see the extraordinary collection of birds and animals.

2. I would like to visit Australia in winter to be able to sunbathe and swim in the ocean while it is twenty degrees below zero in Russia.

3. I want to research the possibility of studying at the University of Sydney.
