Pupils: How do you do!

Teacher: I hope you are well, kids!

Pupils: We hope you are, too.

Teacher: Sit down, please. Today we shall speak about seasons. Our task is to revise the material we've learnt.

To brush up our phonetics let's recite the poem «Seasons». All together, please.

Pupils: Autumn is yellow.

Winter is white.

Spring is green.

Summer is bright.

II.

Teacher: Good. And now your task is to agree or disagree:

1) There are 5 seasons in a year. - No, there are 4 seasons in a year.

2) Autumn comes after summer. - Yes, autumn comes after summer.

3) Spring comes after autumn. - No, spring comes after winter.

4) Winter is the coldest season of the year. - Yes, winter is the coldest season of the year.

5) It's warmer in spring than in summer. - No, it's warmer in summer than in spring.

Teacher: Now, let's speak what we can do in different seasons. First remember our song. Let's sing it.

(Магнитофонная запись песни «Времена года»)

Pupils: «In winter we ski and skate», says little Kate.

«In summer I like to swim», says little Jim.

And what do we do in spring?

In spring we play and sing.

And what do we do in spring?

In spring we play and sing.

Teacher: Thanks. Now answer my questions, please.

  • What can children do in winter?

  • What do you like to do best?

  • Do you help your parents in the garden in spring?

  • What do you do in summer?

  • Do you like autumn?

Teacher: Say what your favourite season is and why you like it. As for me my favourite season is summer because I like to swim.

(Cпросить 5 учеников)

Teacher: Different people like different seasons. What proverb suits here?

Pupil: Tastes differ.

Teacher: Right you are. Now recite poems about your favourite seasons. …, you like winter. Please, come out and recite the poem «Winter».

WINTER

It's winter now, so bundle up tight!

Warm mittens and caps will be just right.

Ice on the lake, snow on the ground,

Time to ski and skate all around.

Winter, spring, summer, fall -

I like winter best of all.

Teacher: Thank you. Go to your place, please. And who likes autumn?

FALL

Put on your jacket and jeans for fall,

Now it's cold to play football!

Leaves turn orange, red and brown,

And they all are falling down.

Winter, spring, summer, fall -

I like fall best of all.

Teacher: Thank you. Whose favourite season is summer?

SUMMER

The summer sun shines hot and high.

Baby birds now learn to fly.

Green, green leaves and tasty fruit,

All the things are so good

Winter, spring, summer, fall -

I like summer best of all.

Teacher: Thank you. Who is fond of spring?

SPRING

Spring is here, summer is near,

Grass is green, so nice and clean.

Winter, spring, summer, fall -

I like spring best of all.

Teacher: Thank you for your poems.

III.

Teacher: And now I am going to read you a text. Listen to me carefully and be ready to say what the text is about.

It's warm. People wear blouses, skirts, shirts, coats, jeans and trousers. Children begin to play hop-scotch, football, ride their bicycles, run and jump. We are all happy because the sun shines in the blue sky and we can hear the birds singing. You can also see small green leaves in the trees and the grass is small and green too. People work in their gardens.

Teacher: What is the text about?

Pupil: The text is about spring.

Teacher: How can you prove that?

(Ответы учеников)

IV.

Teacher: Now let's make a conclusion and tell everything you know about the seasons. It was your homework.

(Выходят 5 учеников и пересказывают по коллажу текст)

Pupil 1: There are 4 seasons in a year. They are winter, spring, summer and autumn. It's warmer in spring than in winter. It's colder in autumn than in summer. Winter is the coldest season of the year. Summer is the hottest season.

Pupil 2: In winter the days are short and the nights are long. It's cold in winter. People wear warm clothes. It often snows. Children can play snowballs, hockey, sledge, ski, skate and make a snowman in winter.

Pupil 3: Spring is a nice season. It's warm in spring. The leaves are small and green. And the grass is green, too. People work in their gardens.

Pupil 4: And many people like summer very much. It's hot in summer. The days are long and the nights are short. The sun shines brightly, birds sing. We can swim and play different games.

Pupil 5: Parks and forests are beautiful in autumn. The leaves are green, yellow, red and brown. It often rains. Autumn is a tasty season because there are many fruits and vegetables. I think all seasons are beautiful.

V.

Teacher: I think it's high time to have a rest. Stand up, please. Sing and do the movies.

(Исполняют песенку-зарядку «Stamp, stamp, clap, clap …»)

VI.

Teacher: You know that English people like to speak about the weather. Imagine the situation: the English boy, Mike by name, is speaking over the telephone with Susan.

(Разговор по телефону)

  • 6548201. Hello. Could I speak to Susan, please?

  • This is Susan. Hello!

  • It's Mike. How are you, Susan?

  • Thanks, I am fine. And you?

  • I am OK. How's the weather in New York?

  • The weather is fine. It's warm today. The sun is shining and the sky is blue. And what is the weather like in London?

  • It's cool and windy. And it's raining. I dislike such kind of weather.

  • I'm sorry to hear that.

  • Good-bye!

  • Bye!

Teacher: And now let's sing the weather song.

(Магнитофонная запись песенки о погоде)

Whether the weather be cold

Or whether the weather be hot

Or whether the weather be fair

Or whether the weather be not

We'll weather the weather

Whatever the weather

Weather we like it or not.

VII.

Teacher: So it's warm in New York. Susan wants to go for a walk. What is she putting on? Use Present Progressive. (Временные формулы)

Teacher: Well and what will Mike put on when he goes to school. Remember that it's raining in London. Use Future Simple.

Teacher: What did we wear in winter? Use Past Simple.

Teacher: Say what you like to wear in summer. (Present Simple)

Teacher: Do you like the poem «Shoes and Boots»? Who wants to recite it?

SHOES AND BOOTS

Shoes and boots, boots and shoes,

Come and bye the size you use.

Try them on before you choose,

Shoes and boots, boots and shoes.

VIII.

Teacher: I have an interesting task for you. I've got cards with words. You must put the words in the right order to make an English proverb. (Составляют разрезную пословицу)

Read all together. Give the Russian equivalent.

Pupils: «Всё хорошо в своё время»

Teacher: Yes, right you are. And this proverb is the title of the text we are going to read and translate. There are some unknown words in it. You can see them under the text. Read them after me, please.

Now read the text, please.

Each - каждый

Fur - мех, меховой

Another - другой

EVERYTHING IS GOOD IN ITS SEASON

There are four seasons in a year. Each of them brings different weather and different dresses. When it is hot people wear t-shirts and shorts, blouses and skirts.

In cold weather people usually put on warm clothes: jeans and trousers, raincoats and jackets, overcoats and caps. In winter they wear fur coats and fur caps, mittens or gloves. The proverb says: «There is no bad weather, there are bad clothes».

Another proverb says: «Everything is good in its season»/ Do you understand it? When you think what to wear, choose the right dress. Think what is good at the sports ground and what is good at a party and why a long dress looks beautiful on a woman but is funny on a little girl.

When you buy clothes, try them on, choose the right size and colour.

Teacher: What new proverb have you met in the text?

Pupil: There is no bad weather, there are bad clothes.

Teacher: Say this proverb once again all together.

Remember it, please.

IX.

Teacher: At the end of the text it is written how to choose clothes. Let's go to the shop to buy a pair of jeans. …, you will be a shop assistant. Who wants to be a customer?

- Excuse me.

- Yes. Can I help you?

- I'd like a pair of jeans, please.

- What size do you want?

- Thirty-six.

- What colour would you like?

- Blue.

- Here it is.

- Can I try them on?

- Of course.

- Do they suit me?

- You look great.

- Thank you. I'll take them. How much are they?

- Twenty pounds.

- Here you are.

- Thank you.

- Good- bye.

- You are welcome.

X.

Teacher: Our lesson is coming to an end.

Your homework will be to try to illustrate one of the English proverbs.

I see that you've learnt a lot of poems and songs, you can speak about the weather, make dialogues, and understand texts.

Your marks are: …

Thank you for your work. Good-bye!
