The Past Indefinite Tense

The 3-d Form

T. Children, look out of the window. What is the weather like today?

Ps. The weather is good today. The sun is shining brightly. There are no clouds in the sky. So the sky is blue. It's not windy today. It's calm and warm today.

T. You are right. But it was very cold yesterday, wasn't it? It was windy and rainy. That's why you stayed at home. Let me guess what you did at home yesterday. You helped your mother about the house, you watched TV, and you played computer games and you washed up after dinner and supper.

If you want to tell me more about the things you did yesterday the following structures will help you.

I ……..ed yesterday.

We …….ed yesterday.

My mother …….ed yesterday.

They …….ed yesterday.

And I'll take notes of what you're saying. And now, children look at the blackboard. Tell me what you can see. What is common for the Past Indefinite Tense?

T. There are some specialities in pronunciation the verbs in the Past Indefinite Tense. I want you to know them. So listen to the poem and try to guess.

THE WEEKEND

What did you do weekend?

What did you do?

What did you do on Sunday?

What did you do?

I painted a picture and I watched TV.

I played in the park and I climbed the tree.

I listened to cassettes and I phoned my friend.

It was a great weekend!

Yes, it was a great weekend!

Now, children, read this poem, choose the verbs in this tense and write them down in your copybooks.

Let's check in. Look at the blackboard. Pronounce them in the right way and don't forget the rule.

PAINTED, WATCHED, PLAYED, CLIMBED, LISTENED, PHONED.

Now let's practice. Make up as many true sentences as you can.

watched TV

played chess

played computer games

My mother helped about the house yesterday.

My brother dressed on Monday.

Denys jumped in the yard in winter.

skated

cleaned his teeth

washed up

T. Listen to what my son did yesterday and say that you did the same thing yesterday.

Yesterday evening my little son wanted to help me because his mother was very tired. He watered the flowers. At 5 o'clock he cooked supper. After supper he washed up. Then he played with his pet. In the evening he watched TV and played computer games.

T. Look at the pictures and try to guess what the children did yesterday.

T. Let's play a game. Look at me. I'll show you what I did yesterday and you'll try to guess. And now Pavlo will go to the blackboard to show what he did yesterday. Tanya, go to the board and show what you did in winter (in summer…)

HOMETASK: Draw a picture about what you did last winter and describe it.
