Demonstrative Lesson (углубленное изучение) 5th form

Theme: The Queen and the Parliament

Aims:

1.Educational: Acquaint pupils with the British Parliamentary System.

2.Developing: Types of reading and practice in retelling the text.

Practice in asking reported questions.

Visual and technical aids: Multimedia, pictures, student's book, work-book.

Procedure of the lesson.

1.Org.moment. Greeting the pupils.

Dialogue with the pupil on duty.(How's the weather today?/What's the season now? What's the temperature outdoors today?)

2.Telling the aims of the lesson.

Today we are going to read the text about the British Queen and political system of the UK, practice in speaking and asking reported questions.

3. Pronunciation drill.

Look at the slide on the blackboard and repeat the words in chorus.

Symbol, colony, prince, princess, empire ,politician, aristocrat, permanent,

policy, royal, lawyer, elect, to delay, to belong to, former.

4.Work with the text: "The Queen and the Parliament".

-Open your books at page 175. Look at the picture, please. Do you know who this woman is? (I guess she is the Queen.)

-That's right. But she doesn't look like a queen, does she? Turn over the page. What can you see now? (I can see the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben).

-You read about them last year, didn't you? Now read the text "The Queen and the Parliament" and say who rules the country in Great Britain. Pay attention to the footnotes.

Skimming reading. (The pupils read the text within 3 minutes and then answer the question "Who rules the country in Britain?")

5.Reading for details.

-Before you read the text again let's study the new words. Look at the blackboard and read them, please.

The Commonwealth, The House of Lords, The house of Commons

-Find, read and translate the sentences with these words.

-Now read the text carefully and agree or disagree with the statements in

Ex.4,p.71, in your work-books.

6.Scanning reading.

Ex.22,p.177 -Look through the questions of ex.22. Do you understand them?

Now you'll find answers to the questions in the text and read them.

7.A short rest. (exercises for eyes).

8.Practice in speaking.

-Look through the text again and divide it into logical parts. How many parts does the text consist of? ( 3 parts).

-Give your variants. (The pupils write their variants on the blackboard).

1.The Queen of Great Britain.

2.The Commonwealth.

3.The British Parliament.

-Now I want you to divide into 3 groups and retell the text. (If you are ready we'll listen to the retelling.)

9.Reported Speech.(Revision of grammar).

-Open your work-books at p.75,ex.9.Read what Nelly and her friends ask and then write their answers in reported speech.(the pupils do the task in a written form).

10.Sum up of the lesson.

11.Marks.

12.Home task. L.13, ex.21.(retell the text), WB. Ex.9(b).
