PROCEDURE OF THE LESSON

I. Preparatory stage - Organization moment:

1. Greeting: - Good morning, pupils!

II. Warming-up activity: In order to involve them to show a short performance and ask what they understood from that.

III. To check up pupils' home task. They had to write about places they would like to visit.

2. Exercise 11. Read the text about the superstitions below and put the modal verbs under the appropriate headings.

BRITISH BELIEFS

● You must not open an umbrella inside a house for it may bring bad luck to you.

• Two women should not pour tea from the same tea pot unless they want to have a baby.

It is believed that one will have a baby less than a year later.

• If you are asked for the salt at the table, you must not hand it to the other
person. You must put it down on the table in front of them.

^You ought not to light three cigarettes with the same match; the last person will have bad luck.

• You should not put shoes on the table; there might be an argument in the house before long.

• When you spill salt on the table, you must throw three pinches of salt over your left shoulder immediately.

• When you have to go back home after you have started a journey (be­cause you have forgotten something), you must not leave immediately. You'd better / You had better sit down and count to ten, or from seven backwards, if you don't want to have an accident.

♦ You ought to tie an old shoe to the back of the car in which a newly-married couple are leaving for their honeymoon because it will bring them good luck.

• You needn't worry so much about superstitions because they are often
contradictory.

To revise the Grammar

Must [mʌst] модальді етістігі жүктелген міндетті, тыйым салынған немесе қатаң түрде бекітілген нұсқауды, бұйрықты айтып жеткізу кезінде қолданылады. Must етістігінің болымсыз түрі: mus not [mʌsnt].

Examples:

2. Exercise 3. Let's play a game. For that I'll divide you into two groups. I'll give you a short text or a conversation and from that you must find a sentence with the Modal verb.

A: What are you doing?

B: I am going to go to the shop.

A: What will you buy?

B: I must buy some food. We have nothing for dinner.

A: Take the second turning on the left and then ask again.

B: Is it far?

A: No, you can walk it under ten minutes.

B: Thanks very much.

A: It's pleasure.

A: You look tired. What's the matter?

B: It's been a very hard week.

A: You should have a good rest during the weekend.

My Arabic was fluently when we lived in Morocco. But after we moved back to Canada, I had very little exposure to the language and forgot almost everything I knew as a child. Now, I can just say a few things in the language.

V. Evaluation

1. To conclude the lesson. Let's make our sums of the lesson. How do you understand the meaning of the proverb: "Every country has its custom"

To give the home task: Exercise 4, page 136. Find the modal verbs in the text and speak about the meanings.

a) the sentences with the modal verb "must" in the text. They are five.

b) one sentence with the modal verb "might".

c) one sentence with the modal verb "may".

d) the sentences with the modal verb "should". They are two.

e) the sentences with the modal verb "ought". They are two.

f) one sentence with "have two", one sentence with "need", one sentence with " 'd better/ had better".

2. Marking pupils' achievements.
