Тема: Holidays and traditions in Great Britain.

Цель:

1. Образовательная:

• Активизировать ЛЕ по теме «Традиции и праздники»;

• Практиковать речевую деятельность;

2. Развивающая:

• развивать навыки во всех видах речевой деятельности;

• расширение и углубление культурологических знаний, повышение общей культуры общения;

3. Воспитательная:

• воспитывать уважение к культуре страны изучаемого языка.

Тип урока: Открытый урок.

Оборудование: наглядные пособия по праздникам, ватман, проектор, аудиозапись.

В ходе урока создается коллаж на тему «Holidays and traditions in Great Britain». Заранее готовятся подарки для гостей, символизирующие определенные праздники (шоколадные яйца, печенье с сюрпризом, валентинки и т.д.).

Ход урока

I.Подготовка к восприятию английского языка.

1. Организационный момент. Учитель проверяет готовность учащихся к уроку, приветствует учащихся, создает эмоциональный настрой. Good morning. Nice to meet you! How are you? Sit down, please. What date is it today? What is the weather like today? I think that the weather is not so bad today. And how are you today? I'm very glad to hear that you are OK today. Let's begin our lesson.

2. Целеполагание и мотивация . Today we will have an unusual lesson, because we'll speak about Holidays, Traditions and Customs of the English-speaking countries. Besides, there are too many guests today in our class-room, that's why let's show them our language skills. I hope that it will be interesting for you during our lesson.

The aim of our lesson will be to get information about holidays and traditions in Britain. We'll see your knowledge of British traditions, sing songs, and we prepared some presents for guests.

Т: So, every country and nation has their own traditions and customs. It's very important to know traditions and customs of different people, especially if we want to know their language. We can't say: "We know English", if we do not know English traditions. Besides, they are very

important in the life of English people. They are proud of their traditions and keep them up carefully. That's why we are going to know more about British holidays today.

As we know there are several holidays in the year. And today we'll talk about only late-autumn, winter, and early-spring holidays in Britain and traditions connected with them. (2 min.)

Let's begin with first task. Look at the blackboard, please, and find the right date for every holiday:

January, 1 Easter

April-May New year

February, 14 Thanksgiving Day

December, 25 St. Valentine's Day

November, 26 Halloween

October, 31 Christmas

P: We celebrate this holiday on the 31st of October. It is very funny and interesting holiday. People wear funny costumes and masks. They do funny pumpkins and go out in groups, knock on people's door and say 'Trick or Treat". They usually get a treat, some sweets or nuts.

The traditional thanksgiving meal consists of roast turkey, cranberry jelly, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie.

For most British families this is the most important festival of the year. At Christmas people put up a lot/s of decorations. There are a lot of traditions connected with Xmas, but the most important on is the giving of presents under the tree. People often spend Cgristmas with their families. On X-mas Day they give presents to friends and family. In the morning a lot of families go to church. They come back home and have a special Christmas dinner - roast turkey, stuffing, roast potatoes and Brussel sprouts. These are crackers (показывает). P: After Christmas there is a last festival of the old year or the first one of the new year - New Year's Eve. In Scotland they called it Hogmanay. All round the country people have parties. In Trafalgar Square in London there is always a really big party.

There is a funny tradition connected with the New Year: The First Foot. This is the first visitor to enter a house on N Y's morning. He is a person of great importance. The First Foot must be a man because it is believed that if a woman first sets foot in the house, bad luck will follow throughout the year. Traditionally, the first visitor of the year must carry food, drink and coal into the house. Coal helps to make a fire in midwinter and there shall never be lack of food and drink during the coming year.

P: We cooked much tasty food, dance and have funny all aver the night. I'd say that our people like this holiday most of all.

P: St. Valentine's Day is celebrated on the 14th of February. It's a day for sweethearts. It's the day that you show your friend or loved person what you feel. You can send candy to someone you think is special. Or you can send roses, the flower of love. Most people send "valentines".

They can be funny and friendly. I like this holiday very much. As I know Red Rose symbolizes LOVE and Pink Rose - TENDERNESS. We have some presents for you.

P: Easter.

P: Easter is a spring holiday and it has a religious background. It's a day when cgristians celebrate Christ's return to life and victory over death. On this day many people go to church. Children get presents of chocolate Easter eggs. Easter always means spring, new life after winter, flowers, green trees, young animals. It is an Easter chocolate eggs.
