Going to Britain

Goals:

The students will introduce with the text about the UK, get more interesting and useful things to get around the world and to enrich the students knowledge with the information of the possibilities of knowing the world.

Materials:

Map of the world or Britain, colored pictures of transport and the sightseeing of Great Britain, charts

Technical aids: TV set, tape, computer

1. Telling the best ways of traveling

2. Retelling the text and asking the questions

4. Discussing the historical places of London


Strategies:

Association, warm-up, gallery walk, true or false, free -writing, charts, semantic map, KWL chart, letter, insert.

I. Оrganization moment

The teacher asks the pupils the date, the duty and homework.

II. Checking up homework.

Children, you know the whole world is open for travelers. Thousands of people travel everyday either on business or for pleasure. They spend their holidays in the places which are not too expensive and where they can rest and improve their health .We knew that there are many ways of traveling. You must tell your homework with the help of the association strategy.

  1. Remind the mines doing these exercises 1,2,3,4 on pages 136.

Traveling abroad is not just visiting new places but also meeting people, learning about the capitals, languages and money. The class uses the map of the world. Before planning to travel to Great Britain you would probably like to get much information about these countries. The pupils do the exercises answering these questions.

  1. Which languages are spoken in these countries?

  2. What are the capitals of the countries?

  3. What are the people from these countries famous for?

  4. What is your native language?

  5. What other languages can you speak, translate, read or understand?

  6. Should you have money or do you have to know foreign languages for traveling?

Going to Britain

Today our lesson is called "Going to

Britain". The goal of the lesson is to give

advice the travelers inexpensive or useful

places to stay and the best ways of traveling

in Britain, about money and the cheap

places to eat out.

The teacher explains about the UK using

the map of Britain.

3. Introduction of the new words.

The pupils should learn to pronounce the unknown words. They are: pound, expensive, youth hostels, double Decker buses, underground or (tube), waiter, throw, serve.

The teacher shows them by computer. Then they' ll copy them in the vocabulary.


  1. Practice Reading.

The pupils read the text " Going to Britain" one after another without translation. After that the teacher asks them what the text about is.

The questions: What money can you use in Britain?

Where can you stay when you are in Britain?

How can you get around in Britain?

Where can you get a cheap meal in Britain?


  1. Practice Listening.

The pupils do the task listening to the tape. They'll mark (T) or (F) in the boxes and the teacher distributes the cards. Then they' ll correct the sentences if they are wrong or right.

Are these sentences true or false?

1.You can use pound in Britain.

2.You may stay at the hotels because they are very cheap.

3.Youth hostel is expensive and unfriendly.

4.Hotels are for people with not much money to spend.

5.There are double Decker buses and coaches in Britain.

6. There isn't an underground or tube in it.

7. You may buy Takeaways food and take it home.

8. You can eat with your fingers in the restaurants.

9. Fast Food Restaurants are very cheap and popular.

VI. Complete the chart or make their own sentences.

This task is to write at once about British money, where to stay, how to get around and where can eat out in Britain. Children are divided into groups 1,2,3,4. For each group teacher gives the names "Money", "Where to stay", "How to get around", "Where to eat". They'll complete the charts which she distributes them. Then they must fill in the chart on the blackboard. After that the leader of each group shares what they have understood about the UK.

  1. A game " Gallery walk"

Before playing it their task was to draw pictures of the historical places of the UK. This task is to visit the National gallery in Britain. The pupils must talk to their class about the historical famous places of the UK which they have seen on these pictures.

Going to Britain

If they have done the task they 'll hang them on every places of the blackboard first. Walking in the gallery they should share the ideas which they have come to their minds. At last the one pair stays at the blackboard and they 'll make their own dialogue.


  1. Complete the semantic cards.

The teacher decides to check the pupils' knowledge about the new material. At the beginning of the lesson pupils must insert on every tasks what they have kept in mind. She gives them semantic cards and they 'll complete them what they have kept in mind.

We concluded by seeing the video montage about Baikonur on the TV and sing a song "Leninsk". We know travel teaches people about art and culture. All of us can also improve our knowledge of foreign languages. And why not to get around Baikonur. We know the people are celebrating " the 50th anniversary of town Baikonur and the 60th anniversary of Victory Day". We have a great holiday this year. The pupils tell about the native town Baikonur. They should give advice where to stay, about money, how to get around, where can eat out. Pupils will discuss about Baikonur. It is famous for its spaceport. There are many interesting and unusual places which attract a lot of people.

IX. Complete the KWL chart.

The pupils write their own ideas about the UK, travel and our town Baikonur.
