Ps -Houses/Homes.
- Yes, you're right. And which of these English proverbs (on the screen) do you associate them with? (пословицы: 'Every bird likes its own nest', 'East or West, home is best', 'Home sweet home', 'My house is my castle", "All roads lead to Rome", "Every country has its customs")(Слайд 2)
Ps -Home Sweet Home, Every bird likes its own nest, East or West, home is best,…
- You are all quite right because these proverbs mean one and the same thing - home is probably one of the safest and most peaceful places for a person to be at. And no matter how it looks like: ordinary or unusual. So the topic of our lesson is "Home Sweet Home"(Слайд 3)
- And do you think whether it will be easy or difficult for you to talk about different homes? Show me your emotional cards, please. (Слайд 4) Why do you think so?
Ps -I think it'll be easy for me because we've learnt a lot of vocabulary words, read and discussed different texts about houses/buildings…

IV. Контроль навыков диалогической речи (проверка д/з).
- Now look through the texts in your student's books (on pages 27, 28, 30 and 33) to tell us what kinds of homes people can live in. (in a house in the shape of a seashell, on a space station in a skyscraper or even in a reed hut)
- I think it's high time to check up your homework. For today's lesson you all have prepared your individual tasks. Let's start with your dialogues. Please, revise them for a few seconds, and then some of you will role-play their dialogues in pairs. (Учитель просит разыграть 1 диалог по ситуации "What place do you live in?", 1 диалог-интервью с мексиканским архитектором дома-ракушки Наутилус, 1 диалог-интервью с космонавтом о жизни на орбитальной станции)
- Let's start with those ones who have prepared the dialogue between two friends. So, one of them has moved to a new flat.
DIALOGUE 1.
A.: Hello, (Polly). How's your new flat? Is it in a new big block of flats?
B.: Yes, it is. And it's pretty cool! What's more it's got a great view of the city as it's on the tenth floor.
A.: Wow! It sounds amazing. What's it like?
B.: Well, it's really big. It's got a large living room, a modern kitchen, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a hall. There is also a big balcony at the front.
A.: That's great! And have you got your own room?
B.: Yes, sure. It's the smallest bedroom but it's really cosy. It's perfect for me!
A.: You're so lucky!
- I think it would be interesting to listen to the interview with Javier Senosiain, who's the architect of the Nautilus house in Mexico. Unfortunately we can't invite him to our lesson but let's imagine such interview.
DIALOGUE 2.
A.: Good morning Mr Senosiain. We know you as the architect of the Nautilus house. Could you answer my questions about it?
B.: Good morning Miss. Yes, with pleasure. What would you like to know?
A.: First of all, how does it look like? (Слайд 8)
B.: It looks unusual because it's in the shape of a seashell.
A.: Wow! In the shape of a seashell?! But is it comfortable inside?
B.: Rather. It has got two floors and spiral staircases. And there is a living room, a huge bedroom, a movie hall, a kitchen and a bathroom with small windows everywhere.
A.: Well, it's really bright. And is it safety to live in the Nautilus house?
B.: Oh! Don't be afraid. It's even earthquake-proof because it was made of extra strong material ( called ferrocement).
A.: That's great! And what is there outside the house?
B.: Outside there is a nice garden with trees. Besides, it's friendly to the environment and has a great view of the mountains.
A.: Oh! It's like Alice in Wonderland! Thank you for the interview, Mr Senosiain.
B.: You are welcome./ That was a pleasure.
- I think life in space is very different to life on Earth. Let's listen to one more interview with an imaginary astronaut about a house out of this world.
DIALOGUE 3.
A.: …How do you like it living on the space station? (Слайд 9)
B.: Of course, it's not very comfortable for astronauts to live and do routine chores floating in the air as we can't walk in space. Nevertheless there are some advantages of space life.
A.: Really?! What are they?
B.: The space station is always in a quiet neighbourdhood and it's got a great view!
A.: That's fantastic! And have you got any appliances for cooking and tidying up?
B.: Yes, we have some. We have got a special vacuum cleaner with a long pipe for catching the floating dust inside the station. As for cooking, there isn't a kitchen with a cooker, a dishwasher and a fridge as we have all the food in tins and packets.
A.: Wow! It sounds amazing! And what about washing clothes?
B.: Well, the astronauts have disposable clothes so there isn't a washing machine, either!
A.: How cool is that!
V. ФИЗКУЛЬТМИНУТКА - Let's have a rest and do exercises with an alien. (Диск)
VI. Развитие навыков аудирования и говорения.
- On reflection, I can say that most people on Earth live in quite ordinary box-shaped houses, but not all of them. In fact, there are so many different types of house designs. And for today, I've made a photo collection of World's Unusual Houses to show you something that you cannot see in your neighborhood. Let's have a look at some of them. Maybe you'll see your dream house. By the way, it'll be your home task to prepare your own presentation about an unusual house. (картинки на доске)
- So there are no limits for fantasy. Some houses can be in the shape of different animals or other things; some are upside-down, crashed, crooked and even crazy!
- Well, Zhenya Bychkova has already fulfilled the mini-project about her dream house.
- Please watch the presentation and listen to Zhenya carefully to get ready for a quiz and further discussion. (Слайд 10)
(Проcмотр видеоматериала , подготовленного учащейся ( Бычковой Ж.) и выполнение задания после презентации)

VII. Презентация нового материала
And how do the British live? Do you know a lot about homes in Britain? (….)
- Let's watch the video to learn some more facts about this. But before watching we should train some new words. (a bungalow, a terraced house, a mansion). (Слайд 11)
