2. The British and the Americans speak the same language. But characters of the two nation are rather different.

4. The British dislike changes. They like traditions and stability. The Americans are open and ready for all new and modern.

5. The British say: Not being like everybody else is a good reason not to change.

6. The British are reserved. They don't like to indicate their feelings. Typically American style is being open, frank and friendly.

7. The British have sentimental attitude to animals and nature. The Americans are urban.

8. The British keep family traditions and values. The Americans are self-reliant individualists

9. Both give presents only once or twice a year - on Christmas and on special occasions.

10. The British are very conscious of class distinctions. The American follow the ideas of equality and freedom.

11. In England different classes have different sets of attitudes, interests and daily habits.

12. Upper-class prefers fox-hunting, birds-shooting and fishing. It uses standard English.

13. Middle-class prefers tennis and cricket.

14. Working-class - football and rugby. It doesn't use standard English.

15. But they both have something in common - they respect privacy and dislike personal questions.
