Тема: Великобританія: Англія, Шотландія, Уельс.

Цілі: практична: узагальнити і закріпити в усному та писемному мовленні лексико - граматичний матеріал за темою "Great Britain: England, Scotland, Wales";

удосконалити усно - мовленнєві вміння учнів;

освітня: розширити кругозір учнів у межах теми;

розвиваюча: розвивати вміння учнів здійснювати мовленнєву діяльність, розвивати самостійність в праці, навички само - та взаємоконтролю;

виховна: виховувати допитливість, спостережливість, увагу, заохочувати до пошуку нових знань.

Обладнання: роздатковий матеріал (картки з граматичним завданням і словами для складання речень, для малювання символів Англії, Шотландії, Уельсу і словами для опису цих слів); кросворд, географічна карта Об'єднаного Королівства Великобританії та Північної Ірландії, кольоровий картон, папір, червоні та зелені ручки, фломастери.

Хід уроку

Teacher (T): Good afternoon, everybody! Get ready for the lesson. We've learnt the themes "England", "Scotland", "Wales". We've learnt a lot about Great Britain. It's such an interesting country, isn't it? Today we have to revise the material we discussed at the previous lessons. And it will be an unusual lesson. Let us have a competition. Do you like this idea? So let's make two teams and now, of course, we have to choose the captains.

1. Choosing the captains.

T: Now I'll say a few words about the country and you have to name it.

Try to guess. Who knows the answer have to raise the hand quietly.

The task for Team 1.
This country is famous for its beautiful scenery: valleys, mo untains and rivers.

In the соuntry there is the second highest mountain in Britain. Іn this country you can follow the narrow rocky paths in the Snowdonia National Park. What country is it? (Wales)

The task for Team 2.

This country is situated on the North of England. The capital of this country is known as Athens of the North because it has great past. In this city there is a monument to the famous writer Sir Walter Scott. What country is it? (Scotland)

T: So, now we have 2 captains. You are to choose the colours of your teams. Take out any card you want. Now we know that your colour will he red and your colour will be green. And according to this you will get green and red pens.

Test: What do you know about Great Britain.

T: You know a lot about Great Britain and its people, but some things are easily forgotten. Let us brush up your knowledge about this country. So take these sheets of paper and your pens. You have to write down the number of the question and the right letter. Make the right choice: a, b, c, or d. Listen to me carefully.

IV. Grammar task.

1. The next task is connected with grammar. You've learnt the phrasal verb to look. Sо let us check up your knowledge. We'll give you a number of separate words with this verb. You must choose the right words and make two correct sentences out of them. Then read and translate the sentences. For example,

2) What do you know about the Complex Object? Could you write the sentences with the Complex Object in Active and Passive Voice?

We'll give you the cards with the task. You have to complete the table. You'll have three (four) minutes. So, let us start. Now let's check up this grammar exercise. You'll get one point for each correct sentence.

V. The captains' contest

Now it's our captains' turn. What can you tell us about Scotland and Wales? Choose any card you want and show it to everybody. So the captain of Team I will tell us about Scotland and the captain of Теam II has to ask him 2 questions about this country. O'K?

And now the captain of Team 2 will tell us about Wales. You'll get one point for your punctuation, one more point for your answers.

For example, the questions for the captain of Team 1 are:

And the questions for the captain of Team 2 are:

1. Who is the patron saint of Wales?

VI. The symbols of the countries.

We need two artists from each team for the next contest. Do you know

the symbols of England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland? Take these sheets

of paper and use many-coloured pens. You must draw:

1) for Team 1 - the symbols of England and Wales;

2) for Team 2 - the symbols of Scotland and Ireland. You have to write their names too.

Show us your pictures, please, and read the names of these symbols.

You get 1 point for one symbol.

The symbol of England is a rose. The symbol of Ireland is a shamrock.

The symbol of Wales is a daffodil. The symbol of Scotland is a thistle.

VII. THE CROSSWORD PUZZLE

Look at the blackboard, please. You can see a crossword there with the definitions of each word. Can you solve the puzzle? You'll get one point for each right answer. The definitions:

Teacher (T): Hi, everybody! I've got great news for you. You are the winners of "English Learners' Contest" and you are going to Wales!

A: It's fantastic! I can't believe it! It's too good to be true.

B: Wow! I knew it! I knew it!

T: Please be quiet. I'm here to tell you all you want to know.

А: When are we leaving? How long are we going to stay in Wale?

T: We are starting next week and we'll spend 5 days there.

B: What places are we going to visit?

T: First of all we'll visit 3 national parks in Wales. You know, these parks are protected by law because of their natural beauty, but people live and work there.

В: I have always wanted to see the highest mountain peak in Wales. You know… this mountain… I can't remember its name.

A: Mount Snowdon! The second highest mountain in Britain. It is 1085 metres high!

T: Yes, of course, we'll see it and other high mountains too. We'll have a
special tour in the mountains.

A: I think we have to visit Cardiff, the capital of Wales, and the main port.

T: Certainly, we'll see the castle, the cathedral and the university in Cardiff.

B: What about other big cities - Swansea and Newport?

T: Sorry, not this time. But if you win another contest…. who knows…. we may have a chance.

Dialogue 2. A Holiday in Scotland

Father (F): Well, kids, I've got wonderful news for you!
A: What is it, Daddy? Are we going to the circus?

В: І know, we are going to the Zoo!

F: No, kids. It's much better. You've been so good this school year that I decided to take you on holiday.

A: Wow! Where are we going? Is Mummy coming too?

F: Of course she is. We're going to the Highlands of Scotland, my birthplace.

A: Great! Dennis was there last summer with his parents and he loved it.

B: I think that's very interesting, Dad! You know, Miss Hunter, our Geography teacher, told us yesterday that the Highlands of Scotland are famous for their scenery and people from all over the world come there and admire it.

F: Miss Hunter is quite right. There is nothing like the high mountains, deep valleys and grassy plains of my bonny Scotland's. "My heart's in the Highlands" is written by Robert Burns. You know, when I speak of Scotland I become something of a poet myself.

A: Shall I take my skis? Is there any snow? Is it cold in Scotland in summer?

B: Oh, Dad, it's so exciting.

IX. Descriptions of the words.

Now you'll get 4 cards with the words for each team. You have to

Describe them and then to read these descriptions to the other team. You have to guess these words. You'll get 1 point for each right answer.

The words:

2) a meadow, а cow, a forest, a river

For example:
