Lesson plan.

Teacher's name: Kupeeva F.B.

Topic: England.

Aim: by the end of the lesson the students will be able to make up their own guide-book on England.

Objectives: by the end of the lesson the students will be able:

1) to speak about famous cities and famous places in England;

2) to describe all the regions of England;

3) to answer the questions on England.

Materials and equipment: textbook "English VI", activity book "English VI", the map of Great Britain, the pictures of famous English cities, cards, tape O 37, handouts.

New lexics and structures: guide-book, route.

Language to be revised: the British places of interest, active vocabulary on the topic "England."

I. Warm up.

Answer the questions about England:

1. How many regions are there in England?

2. Name them.

3. Where is Heathrow Airport situated?

4. What industrial cities do you know in England?

5. How do people call the county of Kent?

6. What are the main attractions in the North of England?

II. Oral speech practice.

1) Translate the sentences from Russian into the English.

  1. Оксфорд - старый английский университетский город. Он расположен в Центральных графствах Великобритании.

  2. Шеффилд известен своей сталелитейной промышленностью.

  3. Брайтон - курортный город, расположенный на юге Англии.

  4. Очень интересно посетить графство Кент. Туристы всегда восхищаются его великолепными садами.

  5. Озерный край Англии расположен на северо-западе страны.

2) Look at the map of England and guess what the names of the places marked with the numbers are.

Listen to the tape O 37 and check up your answers.

3) Match the facts with the names of the region.

( the pupils divide into five groups according to plants on the cards given to them: trees, flowers, fruits, etc. Each group represents one of the five regions of England and its task is to choose all the facts connected with its region.)

  • the industrial cities of Birmingham, Manchester and Sheffield

  • the heart of England

  • the big seaport of Liverpool

  • the ruins of Hadrian's wall

  • the birthplace of William Shakespeare.

4) Complete the sentences about the famous cities of England. (on the blackboard)

6) Making up of the guide books on England.

(the groups are given the maps of England. They are to draw a line from Newcastle-upon-Tyne to Land's End, visiting all the famous places and cities. After the guide book is done one of the students describes their route and explains why they decided to visit these or those places of interest.)
