Warm-up:

Talk about voluntary work

Ex.1 P 98 (Student's Book)


  • Play the recording several times to listen to key words and then join in saying them

  • Ss check the meaning in Mini-Dictionary

  • Ss look at the photos and say which activities they can see

Make up cluster using key words

Ss make up their own clusters

Main Activities:

1 Reading the interview.(Ex.3 P.98)

Read the interview and answer the question :What kind of voluntary work would Diane

like to do?


  • SS read the dialogue and answer the question

  • Check the answer by reading

(Answer: Diane wants to do voluntary work in Africa.


  • Ask Ss to find out an extra information about the main character

  • In turn Ss tell the class what they get to know

2 Listening to the interview.(Ex.4 P.98)

Listen to the interview and complete it with the words.


  • Ss read the dialogue

  • Fill in gaps

  • Check the answer by reading aloud

(Answers:

1-next year

2-six months

3-next autumn

4-this summer

5-two months)

3 Answer the questions using the dialogue

Questions:

  • Why do a lot of young people in Britain take a year off?


  • What is Diane going to do?


  • Why does Diane have to do a course for volunteers?


  • What is her brother?

(Questions are on the active board)

4 Discuss Voluntary work abroad. Use the Key words (Ex.2 P.98)

  • Would you like to do voluntary work abroad?

  • Where would you like to go

  • What would you like to do?

Ss answer the guestions. Teacher helps Ss if necessary.

5 Write down some words about voluntary work and make up your sentences

  • Divide class into 2groups

  • Each group writes different words

  • Ss read their sentences.

Follow-up:

  • Make up your own stories about voluntary work.
