1) сжатость, компактность изложения, экономное использование языковых средств;

2) стандартное расположение материала, нередкая обязательность формы (удостоверение личности, различного рода дипломы, свидетельства о рождении и браке, денежные документы и т. д.), употребление присущих этому стилю клише;

3) широкое использование терминологии, наименований (юридических, дипломатических, военных, административных и др.), наличие особого запаса лексики и фразеологии (официальной, канцелярской), включение в текст сложносокращенных слов, аббревиатур;

4) частое употребление отглагольных существительных, отымённых предлогов (на основании, в отношении, в соответствии с, в деле, в силу, в целях, за счет, по линии и др.), сложных союзов (вследствие того что, ввиду того что, в связи с тем что, в силу того что и др.), а также различных устойчивых словосочетаний, служащих для связи частей сложного предложения (на случай, если …; на том основании, что …; по той причине, что …; с тем условием, что …; таким образом, что …; то обстоятельство, что …; тот факт, что … и т. п.);

5) повествовательный характер изложения, использование номинативных предложений с перечислением;

6) прямой порядок слов в предложении как преобладающий принцип его конструирования;

7) тенденция к употреблению сложных предложений, отражающих логическое подчинение одних фактов другим;

8) почти полное отсутствие эмоционально-экспрессивных речевых средств;

PERSONAL STATEMENT 1

My interest in education and foreign languages dates back to my school years where I excelled in organizing different parties, concerts and discussions for primary classes. During the years at Primary School Teachers' Training College I participated in pedagogical conferences in St. Petersburg and received a few rewards for my reports.

When I began my studies at St. Petersburg Primary School Teachers' Training College, I had the opportunity to be exposed to the full range of methodical courses, all of which tended to reinforce and enhance my intense interest in education. But rather soon I realized that education is too wide a subject and I had to choose a specific field to deal with. I have always been strong in English and German. So I came to methods of language teaching.

Since I was in my second year of study, I have been studying with my teacher, Mrs Krylova, intensive methods of language teaching. In my course paper I am adopting these numerous methods for the primary and secondary education.

Now my interest has shifted to multi-lingual education, which would serve an excellent base for wider literary education at all levels. Such an idea has recently been discussed, but there are still no standard programmes to realize it. It is very interesting and responsible to create these sort of programmes for schoolchildren. I am sure that they could develop their linguistic abilities and widen their knowledge of foreign literature.

My studies at the College will soon be completed and I would like to continue my education at the University of Toronto. After completing my Bachelor's degree I am going to continue my studies and to write appropriate textbooks for my courses. I am actually aware of the superb reputation of your University and I hope you will not deny me the privilege of continuing my studies at your fine institution.

PERSONAL STATEMENT 2

I have always been enthusiastic about English. I spent a lot of time reading when I was younger and feel that this benefited me by encouraging me to develop and learn quickly. I had a vivid imagination as a child, possibly influenced by my interest in the captivating work of such authors as Enid Blyton and Charles Kingsley. I still enjoy reading in my spare time.
What attracts me most to English is not only the chance to expand my literary knowledge, but the opportunity I am given to communicate my own thoughts and ideas. I love how writers can express their opinions and emotions in words that can influence, inspire and touch others. For this reason, creative writing is one of my favourite aspects of the subject. The way I can express myself freely on paper is a liberating feeling for me, and I find writing to be a useful and therapeutic way of conveying my emotions.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in education so far. I like learning and feeling motivated by a challenge. English is the subject that I have
enjoyed most since my earliest days in primary school, and I still find the study of both language and literature deeply interesting.

I think that university life would suit me as it would give me the chance to grow as a person and become more confident and independent. It would also obviously enable me to further my education in a way that will greatly benefit me in my life, with regards to my future career.
After university I would like to become a school English teacher. I think that helping children to realise their potential would be a significantly rewarding job that I would look forward to every day

In my first year at college I was part of the online magazine, The Student Times, where I had more of a research position than a writing role. As much I enjoyed my time working on the magazine, I have decided to concentrate more on my academic studies during my second year. Outside college I enjoy reading, writing, music, films, fitness and the Internet. I have a wide group of friends and enjoy socialising with them. I also like the independence and responsibility that comes with having part time employment.
Overall I believe I am a responsible, dedicated and hard-working person. I am a good listener and I feel that my good communication skills would be essential for a teaching career, and would also help me in my time at university. I would really like to further my education and hopefully end up with a successful and fulfilling career. I think university would suit me because it would give me the chance to live and work independently for a change, and I would be able to meet many different people from all walks of life.

THANKFUL LETTER TO THE MANAGER OF THE RESTAURANT

Dear Mr Bell

I have been staying with relatives in Great Ayton for the past week. On the evening of Tuesday May 17th. , they entertained my partner and me to dinner at Chapters. We had a superb evening, from the Senior Waiter's greeting to our departure. The waiter's 'performance' was excellent; from the offering of the menu through to the end of the evening he was charming, friendly and very attentive without being the least intrusive. He cleared the table regularly, refilled our glasses, cleaned the table after each course and served the meal very professionally assisted by his equally able partner. I've no idea of their names but they should be commended highly.

As for the cuisine, you evidently have a superb chef. The menu was very imaginative and superbly cooked and presented.10 /10 to him. I don't come up to North Yorks very often; however, when next I do I shall certainly look forward to dining at Chapters again. Many thanks.

Sincerely yours,

Helen Hopkins

FORMAL LETTER OF COMPLAINT ABOUT SERVICE IN THE RESTAURANT

29th May, 2014

Dear Mr. Richardson,

My boyfriend and I have patronized Pickle Mountain Restaurant many times over the past few years. Your food is exceptional, and it is a great place to bring out of town guests. We especially enjoy your fried pickle appetizers.

However, on Saturday, May 27, we had a poor experience. I feel it is important that you be aware of the behavior of your employees. I have not shared this experience with any of my friends (or on any social media) yet, and would like to provide you with the opportunity to respond.

We arrived at about 6:45 PM. We do understand that this is a busy time. We were understanding of the 30 minute wait.

The waitress seemed to be annoyed. She did not smile or say anything friendly. We thought maybe she was just having a bad day. However, we ordered a hamburger without cheese for me. (I cannot have cheese as I am allergy) When the food came, there was still cheese on it.

We told her and her response in a rude tone was "Well, you should have reminded me!" She said, "Just take it off." We couldn't just take it off because the cheese had already melted. We asked a new hamburger. She seemed very annoyed, but did get me a new hamburger. She also did not refill our drinks until we asked.

I have enclosed a copy of our bill for your reference. Please contact me at anytime about this issue at (345) 333-1234. Thank-You. A response from you will make us more likely to return to Pickle Mountain in the future.

Respectfully,

Paula Poodleson

FORMAL LETTER OF COMPLAINT ABOUT SERVICE IN THE HOTEL

20th May, 2014

Dear Mr. Smith,

My family and I recently took a vacation to San Antonio. We chose to stay at the (hotel name) located at (hotel address). We stayed there from Friday, May 14th to Tuesday, May 18th. I have enclosed a copy of our receipt. We picked your hotel because of the location, and some positive reviews I had read online.

We had a great vacation and enjoyed visiting the Alamo and other sites. We liked the restaurant at your hotel, and the location was perfect. However, we were very disappointed in the cleanliness of our room.

We found hair on the bathroom floor when we arrived. In addition, the floor had crumbs and needed to be vacuumed. On our second day, when we returned, we noticed that the beds had not been made, and cleaning staff had not visited. I did call the lobby desk and ask, and they said they were understaffed and unable to do it on that day.

While I do understand that low staff can cause issues, we did pay for full service. Therefore, since our room was not cleaned, we would like a partial refund.

You may discuss this further with me at any time at (806) 443-2342. Or, feel free to email me at [email protected].

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Valerie Vacation
