  1. You are a representative of the Town Authorities. You are very sorry about the matter but you consider that you do your best to take care of people in your town. The Town Authorities pay a lot of attention to teenagers: there is a new Sport Centre and a nice Disco Club in the town. You think that teenagers' parents are guilty of Mr. Smith because they bring up their children badly and don't take care of them. You can also speak about the work of the Police in your town and the people in the community.

  1. You are a Police officer. You are very sorry about Mr. Smith. You are going to speak about your hard work: few people want to work in the Police; you need new equipment and feel little respect. You have already told the Town Authorities about your problems but they don't react. The Police officers try their best to keep law and order in your town. You think Mr. Smith didn't have to leave his shop because he was alone. He should have called the Police.

3. You are a Surgeon, who tried to save Mr. Smith. You say that the number of teenager's victims has increased lately. You are very sorry about Mr. Smith. Luckily, you managed to save his life, but unfortunately he will be disabled for some time. You are sure that those teenagers are very cruel and their parents are guilty of this accident.

4. You are a representative of the teenagers' parents. You are very sorry about Mr. Smith. You tried your best to bring up your child as a good person but you have to work hard and don't have the opportunity to spend much time with your child. Your life is hard and the Town Authorities don't do anything for you. You think that school is guilty because they work awfully and don't give good education. And where are the Police? Who should prevent such cases?

5 You are a representative of the community ( Simpleton). You live just near the City Bookstore. You didn't hear anything that evening. If you had heard anything you wouldn't have come outside because you are afraid of the teenagers hanging around in your district. You would have called the Police. You are very sorry. You think your town needs more policemen and they should work better. You think people, who passed by the gang that evening, were afraid of those teenagers.

6. You are a representative of a teenager group. You think that nobody understands you. You are not pleased with your school. Your parents are always busy. Nobody needs you. You don't know what to do. You like to spend time with your friends. Sometimes you play jokes on people. You don't think that it is bad. You think Mr. Smith shouldn't have chased teenagers. You think adults are cowards if they didn't help that person.

7. You are the interviewer. You should conduct the talk show, introduce people. You should describe the situation at the beginning of the show.

Town Authorities.

I'm very sorry about the matter and I must bring apology to Mr. Smith's family. Now I can't but mention that Town Authorities do their best to take care of people in our town. In my opinion we pay a lot attention to teenagers: there is open a new Sport Centre and a nice Disco Club in the town. I'm sure that teenagers' parents are guilty of Mr. Smith's case because they bring up their children in bad conditions and don't take care of them. The work of the police also leaves much to be desired.

The Police Officer.

I'm the police officer. My name is Mike Petra. I arrived at the place of the accident that evening and found the body of Mr. Tom Smith. It was lying on the pavement motionless. It was really an unpleasant sight. I am sure that my work is very hard; few people want to work in the Police. They think that it isn't a noble profession. But I don't agree to it. We try to do our best to keep order in our town and help people. But still there are a lot of problems left. We need more people to work and new equipment. I have already reported the Town Authorities about our problems, but they didn't react. I'm sure that Mr. Smith didn't have to leave his shop and chase the children. As he was alone he had better call the Police.

A Witness.

I'm the representative of the community. I live just near the City Bookstore. I didn't see and hear anything that evening. Even if heard anything I doubt whether I would come to help because I'm afraid of the teenagers in that area. Those teenagers are considered the cruelest. I think that I would call the Police. I'm sorry about Mr. Smith. In my opinion, our town needs more policemen and they should work better. Personally I feel that people who passed by that evening were afraid of those teenagers and were afraid of being beaten too.

A Surgeon.

I'm a surgeon at the National Neurological Hospital. My name is Dr. Jane. The body of Mr. Tom was brought to our hospital in a very bad condition. A group of my collegues tries desperately to save his life, but his injures proved too severe. I'm afraid that he lost too much blood. And as a result of his being beaten he's got concussion. Luckily we managed to save his life, but unfortunately, he will be disabled for some time. As far as I can remember the number of teenagers' victims has increased lately. We are sure that those teenagers are very cruel and their parents are guilty of this accident. They had better tell them about the possible consequences of their cruelty.

The representative of the teenager group.

My name is Cindy. I completely disagree that any of us is guilty of this accident. We grew up in the street because we were always treated as troublesome teens. In my opinion, nobody understands me, I'm sure that nobody needs me. I don't know what to do. Sometimes it seems to me that I have forgotten how my mother looks like. She's always busy. I have never seen my father. My house is big and nice, but my mother forbids me to invite friends there. And I have to spend time with my friend in the street. Sometime we play jokes on people. I'm sure that it isn't bad. I think that Mr. Smith shouldn't have chased us because of a cheap football. We didn't want to do any harm to him/ we just wanted to play football, but we didn't have money. I think adults are cowards, if they didn't come to help him.

A Parent.

I'm very sorry about Mr. Smith. I think that I do my best to bring up my daughter as a good person. But I have to work hard and don't have an opportunity to spend much time with her. I am bringing up my daughter alone, my life is hard and the Town Authorities do nothing for me. They'd better provide mothers with extra payment for children. In my opinion, school is guilty because they work awfully and don't give good education. And where was the Police? Who should prevent such cases?

Conclusion.

I think that we can't find the only guilty person. It goes without saying that teenagers and their parents are guilty of Mr. Smith's case. But I'm sure that the whole society is guilty. I can't agree that teenagers stole the ball because they didn't have money; they were not taught that everybody is forbidden to steal smb's property. These teens needed attention from their parents and from the Town Authorities. For one hand the Town Authorities pay a lot of attention to teenagers, they opened Sport centre and Disco Club but they are too expensive for poor children and again they have to enjoy themselves in the street. For the other hand expensive life makes their parents work a lot to provide their children with everything necessary. As the result the street has brought up these children and deprived them of love and attention. The street has taught them to survive and become a leader, but it hasn't taught them to be a law obedient citizen.
