Leninsk -Kuznetsky is one of the largest towns of the Kuzbass. It is situated in the western part of Kemerovo region on the Inya river. Leninsk-Kuznetsky is surrounded by Altai, Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk regions. Its history started from a small village of Kolchugino mentioned for the first time in 1763. The first mine began to function in 1883. In 1922 the village was named Lenino and in 1925 it became the town of Leninsk-Kuznetsky. Its total area is 128 square kilometers. The population is about 175.500. It is known not only for its historical events, but for sports. The citizens of our town go in for gymnastics, wrestling, power-lifting, football and other kinds of sport. Such necessary facilities are provided for them: a stadium, sports grounds, a swimming pool, skating rinks, skiing stations, football fields. In the town where I live there are different sporting societies, clubs and complexes. Sport is paid much attention to in our educational establishments. Gymnastics is a part of children's daily activities in the kindergartens. In our town there are many famous sportsmen such as Maria Filatova, Maksim Devaytovsky, Konstantin Pavlov, Valentin Mogilny and others.

The History Of Sport In Our Town

The "sport of all sports" is gymnastics. The history of gymnastics is connected with the name of the legendary person, the deserved trainer of the USSR Innokentiy Ivanovich Mamentjev. In 1959 he with his wife arrived at Leninsk-Kuznetsky. They began to train young gymnasts in a small hall of a town House of Pioneers, and then in the basement of the Central Palace of Culture. They brought up the first masters of sport: Nina Kiselyova, Tanya Darchik, Nina Shorohova, Volodya Gurgenidze. At first they trained children from 13 years. In 1964 four gymnasts from Leninsk-Kuznetsky won eleven medals in Rostov-on-Don. They were Slava Fogel, Volodya Kadanyev, Victor Dubs, Victor Gurin. Then went to Artek and won again. When they returned home the citizens met them as cosmonauts. To have great achievments in sport one should work hard, train much. And Mamentjev decided to train children from 5-6 years. Parents, doctors were against it but he won a victory, he brought up new champions: Nadezhda Duplyakova, Victor Braun, Tanya Pavlova, Gena Kharitonov, Nadezhda Matvienko, Tanya Glebova and others. There was no permanent place for trainings and he decided to built a Palace of Sport Gymnastics.

Now it is the best in Russia as a gymnastic complex of the world level. Here gymnasts trained before the Olympic Games of 2008 in Beijing. The centre is equipped well.

Also in our town there is the school of Olympic reserve which was founded in 1989. Nowdays it is one of the best schools of Olympic reserve in our country. In 2000 the educational establishment received from the Olympic committee the prestige award Honest Game. 5 sportsmen from the school were participants of the XX Olympic games in Turin.

Football club "Zarya" was created in 1987. Its head coach is S.Vasyutin.The best result of "Zarya" was the 6^th place in the season of 1996. S.Toropov was declared the best player of the first league.Many football players, such as A. Smertin, S.Kormiltsev, O. Musin, S.Lemeschko, V. Semyenov, V. Yanotovsky are famous in Russia and abroad.The head of our town V. Ermakov is the president of "Zarya". Many mines sponsor it. Famous businessman R. Abramovich transferred'Zarya" 113 thousand euro.

Football team has many fans. Stadium 'Schahtyer" is a place of culture in Leninsk-Kuznetsky. There you can see workers and pensioners, businessmen and teachers, boys and girls. Whole families go to see football matches and then discuss them. In April of 2005 the Minister of Sport V. Fetisov awarded S. Vasyutin the prize "Fair Play". Vasyuatin's dream is to organize a match between "Zarya" and "Chelsea".

Graeco-Roman

The founders of Graeco-Roman (wrestling) were S. Kasner and V. Ivaschin. It was in 1953. Many coaches, L. Nemchaninov, V. Bragin, V. Dorogov, V. Cherenkov, A. Agafonov work in this school training sportsmen.The most famous wrestlers are V. Bodyagin, G. Savitsky, A. Majorov, V. Petin, N. Danilov.The sport school is equiped well. Many famous people (D. Pocukonko, V. Kovalyev and others) come to see matches.

Powerlifting

Powerlifting is one o the newest kinds of sport. The coach I. G. Derevyanko began to cultative it since 1983. K. Pavlov was the first silver winner at the European championship in Belgium and the bronze winner in Canada. Among the famous sportsmen are T. Eltsova, E Dolgov, E. Kurbakova, N. Tokaryeva and others. Today this kind of sport is the most popular in our town.

The Swimming- pool

In our town there is a swimming- pool "Water World". Both fans and professional sportsmen go there. People of our town can easy relax and spend evenings in it. Sometimes schoolchildren have lessons there and they go to the swimming- pool by a special bus which is colourfully decorated. There are no great achievements in swimming but we hope they will be.

Famous Sportsmen

Filatova Maria Evgenievna was born on the 19^th of July in 1961 in our town. She competed in the sport society "Burevestnic". She graduated from Novokuznetsk State Pedagogic Institute. She is a twice Olympic champion in team competitions of XXI and XXII Olympic Games in 1976 and 1980.She was a World Champion in 1977 and 1978, world champion of 1978 and 1988 in team competitions, champion of Europe in 1977 in free exercises. Maria Filatova was an absolute champion of the USSR in 1977 and 1978. Her trainers were Inokentiy Ivanovich Mamentjev and Galina Nikolaevna Mamentjeva.Now Naria Filatova lives and trains gymnasts in the USA.

Konstantin Pavlov was born in 1979 in Leninsk- Kuznetsky. He is a world champion in powerlifting. He finished school of Olimpic reserve in 1994. Konstantin Pavlov competes in the weight category- "under56 kilogrammes". His best results: sitting-260 kg (Europian record), lying-170 kg (Russian record), standing pulling-220 kg, in sum-632,5 kg (Europian record). Konstantin is known and liked in most countries of the world. Powerlifting is very popular among our citizens. Hundreds of young sportsmen go in for it. The example for them is Konstantin Pavlov.

Sport master of international class in art gymnastics is Nadezhda Fetisova . She became a European and World champion in a very young age when she studied in school of Olympic reserve. Nadezhda Fetisova graduated from Kemerovo state university but is still training and competing in Siberian competitions. She is an example to young gymnasts.

Maxim Devyatovsky was born on April, 22nd, 1984 in the city of Leninsk-Kuznetsky of the Kemerovo region. He is a deserved master of sports. He trains under the direction of the deserved trainers of Russia: his father Igor Devyatovsky and Alexander Tsimerman. He is the absolute champion of Europe and Russia of 2007, the owner of the Cup of Russia of 2008, the winner of the Championship of Europe-2006, the silver prize-winner of the Championship of the world-2006 in command superiority, the absolute champion of Europe-2002 among young men, the winner of youthful superiority of Europe 2000 and 2002 in command offset, participant of Olympiada-2004. He is married and brings up the son.
