- Look at the screen. Here you can see the map of A. Please name the A. states.

Good for you. But don't you see that something is missing?

-Excellent. You are right. This small piece of land is ACT. It consists of only one city. Who can name it?

-Right you are. And what is Canberra?

-Before we start to speak about cities look at the sheet of paper that you have on your desks. There is a table in it and you should fill it in with the information about A. cities. The first column is the name of the city. The second is the state where it is situated, the third is the date of foundation, the fourth is population, and the last is some peculiarities of this city. Listen very attentively in order not to miss any information. Is the task clear? So let's return to Canberra. Canberra is located in the ACT in the southeast corner of NSW. It was established in 1913. It is the only A. capital city which is not situated on the seacoast. Its population is only 400,000.

And the largest and oldest city in A. is Sydney that was founded in 1788. S. is the capital of NSW. Its population is 4,300,000 and growing. Nearly a quarter of all A-s live here. S. is the leading industrial city. The 2000 Summer Olympic Games were held in S.
