"Weather and favourite activities"

Objectives:

- to practise speaking about the weather and favourite activities,

- to improve grammar skills and listening comprehension skills, reading skills,

- to develop monological and dialogical speech,

- to develop students' memory, logical thinking, quick reaction, creative abilities;

- to develop the culture of behaviour

Equipment: textbooks, cards

Procedure

1. Starting point. Greeting.

2. Warming-up.

T: Look at the slides, describe the weather and answer the following questions:

T: What weather do you like? Why? What is your favourite activity in any season?

3. Checking up home-assignment

T: You had to make up dialogues using the words and word combinations:

birds, sky, spring, flowers, to plant, trees, green grass, favourite activity, nests, baby birds, spring months, sing spring songs. Read your dialogues by heart.

4. Speaking

T: Look at the pictures and describe the weather.

P1: The weather is rainy in the picture.

P2: The weather is chilly. It is windy. The leaves are falling down.

P3: The weather is cold. It is snowy.

P4: The weather is sunny. Everything is green. The birds and butterflies are flying. The sun is shining brightly.

P5: The weather is cool and foggy. Some birds are flying away.

P6: The weather is cloudy. It is windy (etc).

T: Look at the next slide and explain what weather Ann and Sam like (SLIDE 7)

P1: Ann's favourite weather is sunny because she likes to swim and ride a bike.

P2: Sam's favourite weather is snowy because he likes to make a snowman, ski, play hockey.

T: What weather do your friends like? Why?

5. Listening

T: Listen to the weather report and fill in the gaps with the temperature and the name of the town (ex.1, p.147).

6. Reading

T: Read Pam's letter to Taras and say what it is about (ex.3, p.149).

• When does summer officially start and finish in Britain?

• Why do people in Britain talk about the weather a lot?

• How can you start a talk with a stranger?

• Which months do you think the great poet Lord Byron Liked best?

7. Home-assignment.

T: Your home task is to prepare the weather-forecast in your native city.
