THANKSGIVING DAY

Teacher. Good morning everybody. Glad to see you. As you know, today is the fourth Thursday of November. So we're celebrating Thanksgiving Day. It's one of the greatest national holidays of the United States of America. Almost every culture in the world has held celebrations of thanks for a plentiful harvest.

Pupil 1 Thank you for all my hands can hold-

Apples red and melons gold.

Yellow corn both ripe and sweet.

Pears and beans so good to eat.

Pupil 2. The American Thanksgiving holiday began almost four hundred years ago. Just a few words about the history of this holiday.

Pupil 1 Thanksgiving was first celebrated in autumn 1621 by the Pilgrims who sailed to America from England in September 1620. A small ship «Mayflower» crossed the Atlantic Ocean. There were over а hundred people on board the ship.

Drama I Сценка: СКУАНТО И ВОЖДЬ

S. I'm greeting you, Massasoit, the chief of the Wampanoag tribe.

М. I'm greeting you, Squanto!

S. I've come to say that a big boat is approaching our land. I saw it today in the morning from the rock. It has a lot of people.

М. How many? (показывает двумя руками 5раз) = 50

М. Do you think they are enemies or friends? We don't want to have a war. We don't want to have blood and death.

S. You are right, Massasoit. But we must be ready for everything. I am going to meet them and find out the purpose of their arrival.

M. Be careful. I wish you good luck! (уходят)

Pupil 1 They travelled to America for religious freedom. It was December when they

reached Plymouth Rock.

Do you know the story

Of the first Thanksgiving Day

Founded by our Pilgrim Fathers

In that time so far away?

They had given for religion

Wealth and comfort-yes, and more-

Left their homes and friends and children

For unknown barren shore.

We shall never know the terrors,

That they faced years ago,

But for all their struggles gave us,

We our gratitude can show.

And the children of praise or pray

Should bless God for those brave Pilgrims,

And their first Thanksgiving Day.

Drama 2

Сценка: ПРИБЫТИЕ

1 MAN: Thanks God, we have arrived! Luckily for us we have survived in this cruel trip. Unfortunately, many our friends have died.

1 WOMAN: They died because the food and water on board the ship were very bad, and our Pilgrims had many terrible diseases. But we don't know what we shall meet here.

2MAN: Tomorrow we shall begin cutting trees, but during the first time we shall sleep on the ship.

  1. WOMAN: Look! Somebody is coming! And his skin is red!

S. I'm greeting you, pale faced people! My name is Squanto! Why have you arrived here? What do you want?

  1. WOMAN: We have come from England. This country is very far from here. There we had many problems and we want to begin a new life here.

1 WOMAN: Many of us died during the trip, some of us are still sick. We have nothing to eat and we have no weapon.

1 MAN: Winter is coming, but we have no houses and warm clothes. We won't do you any harm. Help us please!

S. OK, my people will help you! (уходят)

Pupil 2 The Pilgrims arrived too late to grow any crops. Their first winter was very hard and a lot of people died of hunger, cold and illnesses. There were people living in America before pilgrims arrived. They were aborigines, the native American Indians.

Pupil I The Indians taught the first settlers how to hunt and fish, to plant and grow corn, wheat and pumpkins. The crops did well and in autumn 1621 the first settlers had a great harvest. They prepared a great dinner and invited their Indian friends to share the three day feast. The Indians brought food too. They killed some deer and turkey and they even brought popcorn.
