2 Сompere:

In the forests and park.

When children ski

And Father Frost brings

The New Year Tree!

1 Сompere:

Christmas is both a sacred religious holiday and a worldwide cultural and commercial phenomenon. For two millennia, people around the world have been observing it with traditions and practices that are both religious and secular in nature. Christians celebrate Christmas Day as the anniversary of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, a spiritual leader whose teachings form the basis of their religion. Popular customs include exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church, sharing meals with family and friends and, of course, waiting for Santa Claus to arrive. December 25--Christmas Day--has been a federal holiday in Great Britain since 1870.

2 Сompere:

1 Сompere:

For millions of Christians throughout the world it is the happiest and the busiest time of the year. No one knows the exact date of Christ's birth but most Christians celebrate Christmas on December 25.

People of different countries celebrate Christmas in various ways. People in Britain, the United States and Canada decorate their homes with Christmas trees, wreaths and ornaments. City streets are filled with coloured lights; the sound of bells and Christmas carols can be heard everywhere.

2 Сompere:

1 Сompere:

Children write letters to Santa Claus and tell him what presents they would like to get. Many department stores hire people to wear a Santa Claus costume and listen to children's requests. People send Christmas cards to relatives and friends. Many companies give presents to their employees. .

2 Сompere:

1 Сompere:

Traditionally Christmas is considered to be a religious holiday.

It is the day on which Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

The Christmas story comes from the Bible.

St.Luke tells a beautiful story of shepherds who were watching their sheep when an angel appeared to them. He told them that a Saviour had been born in the town of Bethlehem. The shepherds went there to see Jesus.

2 Сompere:

1 Сompere:

According to the Bible the baby Jesus was born in a stable two thousand years ago and was the Son of God. His mother was the Virgin Mary. The word "Christmas" means "Christ's Mass". The Mass is an ancient Christian church service at which people give praise and glory to God.

2 Сompere:

1 Сompere:

Mary and Joseph were Christ's parents.

They went to Bethlehem.

Their way was dangerous and very long.

It was getting darker and darker. They didn't know where to go. A lot of bright stars appeared in the sky.

Suddenly Mary saw a cave. "Let's have a sleep in this place," she said to her husband.

At last they found a place where Mary gave a birth to her child.

He was a boy.

Many bright stars appeared in the sky when Christ was born. But among them was the biggest and the

brightest star that showed the way to his place of birth.

2 Сompere:

Silent Night"

Pupils 10:

Silent Night, Holy Night!

All is calm, all is bright.

Round the Virgin Mother and Child

Holy infant so tender and mild,

Sleep in heavenly peace,

Sleep in heavenly peace.

Pupils 11:

Silent Night, Holy Night!

Shepherds quake at the sight.

Glory streams from heaven afar,

Heavenly hosts sing alleluia.

Christ, the Saviour is born,

Christ, the Saviour is born.

Pupils 12:

Silent Night, Holy Night!

Son of God, love's pure light

Radiant beams from thy Holy face

With the dawn of heavenly grace,

Jesus, Lord at thy birth,

Jesus, Lord at thy birth.

2 Сompere:

Pupils 13:

The excerption from the poem Christmas Bells by Longfellow Henry Wadsworth

I heard the bells on Christmas Day

Their old familiar colors play,

And wild and sweet

The words repeat

Of peace on earth,

Good will to men.

Pupils 14:

2 Сompere:

Pupils 15:

Christmas comes but once a year

And when it comes it brings good cheer

A pocketful of money and a cellar full of beer,

And a good fat pig to last you all the year.

Pupils 16:

I've done many things for Christmas

I've tied each present with bow,

But there's one other thing

I wanted to tell you

How much I love you

But I think - you too.

Pupils 17:

Christmas Cards. Christmas Cards.

Red and green and blue.

Please send me a Christmas card,

And I'll send one to you.

Christmas Cards. Christmas Cards.

Hanging by the tree.

I'll send you a Christmas card,

If you send one to me.

2 Сompere:

1 Сompere:

A Christmas tree is one of the main symbols of Christmas in most homes. Relatives and friends may join in trimming the tree with lights, tinsel, and colourful ornaments. Presents are placed under the tree. On Christmas Eve or Christmas morning, families open their presents.

2 Сompere:

Pupils 18:

"Oh, Christmas tree"

Oh, Christmas tree

With faithful leaves un changing

Not only green in summer's heard,

But also winter's snow and sleet

Oh, Christmas tree

With faithful leaves un changing.

Pupils 19:

Winter smells (by Jane Belk Manure)

Can you hear winter sounds?

Can you touch winter snow?

Can you smell winter smell as the candles glow?

Look in the window! What do you see?

A tiny gingerbread cookie tree!

A ball of holly, pine and spice!

Winter smells are very nice.

Pupils 20:

Christmas Tree Poem

Christmas tree, sparkling bright,

Filled with baubles, warmth and light,

Precious symbol of our affection

For Christmas time and its perfection,

Show each night your radiant glory

For "oohs" and "aahs" obligatory.

Pupils 21:

Christmas tree, don't let us down;

Show something special at your crown,

An angel, star, or splendid piece

To make our holiday joy increase,

An icon, pure, ideal, complete,

For Christmas memories fond and sweet.

Glitter and glisten, gleam and glow,

Oh Christmas tree, we love you so!

1 Сompere:

Many children believe that Santa Claus arrives on Christmas Eve in a sleigh pulled by a reindeer and brings presents. Some children hang up stockings so Santa Claus can fill them with candy, fruit and other small gifts.

2 Сompere:

Pupils 22:

Santa Claus
North Pole

Dear Santa,

I am very happy that the Christmas time has come one again. It has been a long time that I have written a letter to you. I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas. I am sure you must be busy yet again and travelling in your sleigh to meet all the children.

I would request you to please stop by my house too. I have prepared cookies and bought chocolates for you. I have even kept my promise made to you last year, and did my entire home work on time. I would like you to give me my favorite doll this time as prize.

I wish you a very merry Christmas again.

With lots of love, hugs and kisses

Yours' lovingly,

Elizabeth.

Pupils 23:

"Christmas"

Christmas is a lovely time

The snow lies white and thick

Mistletoe is hard to find

And holly hard to pick.

Gifts wrapped up in Christmas paper

Sitting round the tree so bright

Children fast asleep in bed

As Santa comes to night

Tinsel round the windows bright

Pink, orange, red and white

Glittering in the evening light

Oh, such a lovely sight.

Pupils 24:

From home to home,

And heart to heart,

From one place to another

The warmth and joy of Christmas,

Brings us closer to each other.

Pupils 25:

Year-Round Joy

Christmas is full of shiny things

That sparkle, gleam and glow;

These holiday pleasures dazzle us,

And yet, deep down, we know...

That Christmas has its special gifts,

But our year-round joy depends

On the cherished people in our lives,

Our family and our friends.

1 Сompere:

In many parts of the United States and Grate Britain groups of people walk from house to house and sing Christmas carols. Some people give singers money or small gifts or invite them for a warm drink.

Many people attend church services on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning. They listen to readings from Bible and singing Christmas carols.

2 Сompere:

1 Сompere:

Christmas Bells

I heard the bells on Christmas Day

Their old, familiar carols play,

And wild and sweet

The words repeat

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And thought how, as the day had come,

The belfries of all Christendom

Had rolled along

The unbroken song

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Till, ringing, singing on its way

The world revolved from night to day,

A voice, a chime,

A chant sublime

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Then from each black, accursed mouth

The cannon thundered in the South,

And with the sound

The Carols drowned

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

And in despair I bowed my head;

"There is no peace on earth," I said;

"For hate is strong,

And mocks the song

Of peace on earth, good-will to men!"

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:

"God is not dead; nor doth he sleep!

The Wrong shall fail,

The Right prevail,

With peace on earth, good-will to men!"

2 Сompere:
