THE ABC GAMES

1. Alphabet train |

All the players sit around in a circle. The first player begins, '' My train is carrying APPLES''. He uses any word that begins with «A». The next player must use a word which begins with «B». He may say, '' My train is carrying BALLS''. The goes round and round until you finish the alphabet. It is very difficult to think of words that begin with Q, X, and Z. The players can look

them up in a dictionary' beforehand.

2. My aunt went to town

The players sit in a circle and the leader chooses a girl or a boy and asks her or him to suggest a letter, for example. S. Then he chooses a player and says, «What did your aunt buy when she went to town?» The player thinks of something that begins with ''S'', for example, 'shoes', and replies, '' My aunt went to town and bought shoes.'' Then the next pupil has to think what his aunt bought, for example, 'a shirt or 'a skirt'. Each pupil has to think what his aunt bought in town before the leader can count to twenty, and those who cannot think of an article not mentioned before, are out. The game goes until one person,

the winner, is left.

3. My Grandmother's trunk.

The first player starts the game. He says, « packed my grandmother's trunk with aprons». The next player says, «1 packed my grandmother's trunk with aprons and blouses». The third player says. «I packed my grandmother's trunk with aprons, blouses, and caps». Each player must repeat the names of the objects that the other players have said, and then add a new one beginning with the next letter of the alphabet. Anyone who forgets an object or names the "objects in the wrong order, drops out of the game. The last player is the winner.

4. Stop!

All the players need a sheet of paper and a pencil. The leader calls out one after another the letters of the English alphabet. Then the teacher says, «Stop!» and the letter is chosen; for example 'M'. Each player must write words beginning with 'M' (moon, man, meet, my, make, etc.). At the command «Go!» the players start writing the words. They are given 3-5 minutes for completing this task. The one who has the longest list of words will be the winner. Then compare the words written by the players and cross out those which coincide. The player whose words were not found by the rest of the players scores more points.

5.Letters of the alphabet.

From 6 to 20 pupils can take part in the game. Each player is given a sheet of paper and a pencil. A leader reads a list of 4 or 5 letters of the alphabet. Each player is supposed to write a message using these letters as the words' first letters, in the order the letters are given. Then the players read their messages out loud in turn. It can be fun!
