Ход урока:

1.Орг. момент.

Good morning, boys and girls! I am glad to see you. Sit down, please. I'm sure everybody is all right. I hope our lesson will be very interesting and useful for you. We continue talking about some means of communication. You know there is a variety of mass media nowadays. Name them, please. ( radio, the Internet, newspaper, television etc.) You know all of them. So people can choose what to watch, what to listen to, what to read. It's great! It's a well-known fact that mass media are an important part of our life. We can hardly imagine a day without using the Internet or listening to the news on the radio or TV.

2. Речевая зарядка.

  1. Which mass-media do you prefer?

  2. Which mass-media is the most popular in your family?

  3. What about any programs on TV? Which television programs do you like best?

  4. Who in your family watches television more than others?

  5. How many TV channels do you have?

  6. What is your favorite TV broadcasting company (your favorite TV channel)?

  7. Have you got satellite TV?

  8. What programs does our local radio/TV station broadcast?

As we can see television is very popular. What is its role in our life? Do you agree that television is the main source of information?

Pupil 1: Yes, I agree. Television is the main source of information?

Teacher: As for me I'm sure it's the most convenient media, because the only you need is to take TV remote, to switch TV on and that's all. You are enjoying your favorite program.

Примерные ответы учащихся:

Pupil 2: First of all TV brings the news.

Pupil 3: With the help of television we can get information about the world.

Pupil 4: Besides it's the perfect way to find something interesting.

Pupil 4: It's worth remembering that TV informs, educates and entertains people.

Pupil 5: Moreover while watching TV you share opinions, it develops imagination.

Pupil 6: TV provides programs for all interests.

  1. Основная часть:

You have said that TV provides programs for all interests. I absolutely agree with you. Sometimes it's difficult to decide what to choose. At home I asked you to make up your own dialogs about it. Let's role play them!

Примерные диалоги:

  1. - What's on the radio?

- The weather forecast.

- What time is it?

- 5.30

- Please leave the radio on. I'd like to hear my favorite music program. It starts at about six.

  1. - Do you mind if I switch over to the1st Channel?

- Please be quite, I'm trying to listen to the news.

- Anything interesting? Make it louder, please.

- OK. Switch it over to your 1st Channel. I'd better listen to the news on the radio.

  1. - Is there anything good on the television tonight?

- There is an interesting film on 4 Channel this evening.

- I wouldn't like to miss my fitness club, you know. Could you video the film so that I can watch it later?

- No problem.

- Bye, then. Make sure the TV is off before you go to bed!

-Bye, bye.

(три пары учащихся рассказывают свои диалоги)

Thank you, your dialogs were very interesting and informative.

Teacher: How long do you usually watch TV?

Pupils: I usually watch TV 2 hours a day.

As for me I usually watch TV 2-3 hours.

Teacher: Do you usually watch TV before or after you have done your homework?

Pupils: I usually watch TV after I have done my homework.

I usually watch TV before I have done my homework, when I come home after school.

Teacher: If you didn't spend so much time, you would do a lot of useful things: You could help your mother about the house or meet your friends. It's worth remembering that TV has got its advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand it keeps people informed, entertains them. But on the other hand it takes a lot of time watching this or that program.

What would it happen, if people didn't have TV at all? Now we are going to read a text about the man, who hasn't been watching TV for several years. Read the text and say, what the main idea of the text is?

A life without TV.

I left my parents' home at 19 and began a life without television. I have been living alone for 35 years already. In all the time I have never had a TV in any place I've called home.

I have read more than 2000 books, spent 5000 hours communicating with some 10 000 people, travelled to 18 countries and learned 5 foreign languages. I speak English better, know more of my neighbors (соседи), and about world events (события).

(Учащиеся читают текст в течении 3 минут)

Работа по тексту:

  1. What is the main idea of the text?

  2. How old is the author now?

  3. How long hasn't he been watching TV?

  4. What activities has he done without watching TV?

Of course we can't say no to TV at all but it's worth sharing the time not to become TV- addicted.

Let's listen and guess what I am talking about.

It's something that breaks your favorite program or film at the most interesting moment.

Yes, you are right. This is an advertisement. You know some abbreviations of this word, name them. So an advert or add. The advertisement plays its own role on TV. Sometimes it gets on our nerves and encourages us to buy things we don't need at all. But nevertheless it gives us an opportunity to have a little rest from watching. Besides there are a lot of useful, interesting and kind adverts. By the way you know that we have made 2 groups. Every group has prepared an advert. I think it's high time to see them. Listen to your classmates and say, which advert you would choose, if you were a director of the 1st Channel?

Учащиеся разыгрывают рекламу.

  1. "Russia is a generous soul"

- Mother: "Sasha, switch the light on! It's too dark in the room".

- Daughter: "But mum, it's light".

Mother is switching the light on and says: "Now it's light." She is putting a bar of chocolate on the daughter's desk.

- Daughter: "I love you too, mum".

Speaker 1: "It's so easy to please your dearest people. The chocolate "Russia is a generous soul" will remind you how nice it is to be together".

Speaker 2: "Russia is a generous soul. It's good when we are together".

  1. "Call your parents"

- Mother : " Hasn't he called ?"

- Father: "Not yet".

- Mother: "He hasn't been phoning for two weeks already."

- Father: "But you know he is busy."

- Mother: "I'm worried! Maybe something has happened to him.

- Father: "Let's wait a little. I'm sure he will call. Calm down!"

Speaker: "They have grown up and forgotten their parents! Remember! You are a child until you have parents!"

So, your opinion, please! Did you like these adverts? Which one do you like best the 1st or the 2nd? Why? Was it more informative, interesting and educational? Which of them would you choose, if you were a director of the 1. Channel ?

I'm sure that if you were a director of the 1. Channel, you would try to do it better. Maybe you would like to change something.

Here are some tips for you:

  • to produce more scientific programs

  • to broadcast films without violence

  • to show more educational programs

  • to present more Russian fairy-tales and cartoons

  • to show more programs for teens

Make up your own sentences, use the structure: If I were a director of the 1. Channel, I would......

Now it's time to come up to the conclusion. What can you say about the role of television in our life? (ученики делают выводы и заключения по теме)

So to sum up it is to say that good or bad television brings the world into your home. If we share time correctly, all will be OK.

Рефлексия:

Did you like the lesson? What did you like best (to role play the dialogs or advertisements, to read and discuss the text)

You worked very well today, your marks are........

Your home task is page 75 ex51

Thank you for the lesson, good bye.
