Учебник "English VIII" O.V.Afanasyeva, I.V.Mikheeva. Unit 5.

Цель: развитие речевых умений.

Задачи: - совершенствование аудитивных навыков, диалогич. речи;

- употребление в речи разговорных клише (Social English);

- совершенствование навыков поискового чтения;

- совершенствование лексико-грам. навыков (nationality words)

Оборудование, техн. средства: компьютер, проектор, диск с фильмами и песней, магнитофон, кассета, карта Великобритании, карточки-задания.

The Course of the Lesson

I. The beginning: greeting, announcing the topic, setting the tasks.

- Today we'll take a trip to London. You are to master your speech skills: you'll learn to ask for directions & give directions using Social English, train scan-reading skills, master your lexics & grammar (nationality words). Good luck!

II. Warming - Up: "Freewheeling Talk".

-Why do people study foreign languages? (Ps' answers…)

-Do you like travelling? Would you like to go abroad? What country? - Discuss it in groups.

(Polylogues in groups of 2-4 students)

III. "Airports". Rendering information in English: group-work.

-What mean of transport is more suitable to get to London? (Ps' answers…) - Of course planes.

- What city do you probably arrive in Great Britain? (…) - Sure. London.

Clip №2 (from "London. City Guide).

- Do you know any airports in Great Britain? Do you want to know more about London's Airports? Then take these pieces of information from a tourist leaflet, scan, find the proper items & render in English. Work in group of 4 (2-3), each of you is in charge of your own item:

1) location; 2)destination time to the centre of London; 3)how to get to London; 4)tickets' prices. (While the students are working, the music sounds: song "Pasadena")

IV. "London Underground". Auding, scan-reading for information.

- And now we are in the centre of London. How can we get to any place fastest? (…) - Of course by Metro or Tube (as they call it in London).

Clip №3 (the same film & the map of London Underground).

- London's Underground consists of 8 lines, each of them has it's own name & colour. You can get the map at the Metro Ticket Office.

- Open Student's Books, please, p. 212 ex. 48 : a) listen to the dialogue (part 1) and find at least 3 things that help passengers in London Underground. (the tape, №32)

- Pupils' answers: - the sings, - the map, - a TV screen which says where the train is going,

- the station staff.

b) Part 2: - listen to the tape about the London's Tube & give the answers to the questions:

1) How many stations are there in London & suburbs?

2) What is an illuminated Transport Symbol of Metro?

3) Where can you buy tickets?

4) What helps you to choose the right train and platform?

5)What should you do if you are lost?

- At home you are to read the dialogue again & do task of ex.48(B) p. 214.

V. "How to Get to…?" - making up little dialogues, using the map & Social English.

- Let's think about others ways of travelling around the city: buses and tourist coaches.

Clip 4 (the same film) "London buses".

- Very often in the unknown places, especially in big cities you need a help and ask somebody to show the way. How do you ask for directions and how are you given directions?

- Use the map at page 216 & Social English phrases p.210 to make up little conversations. Work in groups or pairs. You all start from Trafalgar Square, but each group has got different places of destination. Take the cards with the routes: 1.Trafalgar Square - the Marble Arch;

2.Tr. Square - the British Museum; 3.Tr. Square - Planetarium, Madam Tussaud's. (Extra task for weak students : ex.46 p.211) (Music sounds) Pupils prepare the dialogues and act them out.

VI. Mastering lexical - grammar skills. "Nationality Words".

- As you know every capital represents a mixture of different nations & nationalities. So does London. Do you remember nationality words? Take the cards and do the tasks to master your grammar skills. (Music sounds, while students are working)

VII. Final Stage.

- I believe that you enjoyed the work, the videos, the music, and I hope that your skills will be useful in your real life and real travelling. And I want to join Rick Steves and say "Keep on travelling and visit London!

Автобусом вы можете добраться не только до Лондона но и до других городов Англии: Birmingham, Manchester, Brighton, Reading, Liverpool. Хитроу аэропорт

Хитроу - самый крупный аэропорт, находится в 30 км. к западу от Лондона. Аэропорт имеет четыре терминала: 1-ый, 2-ой, 3-ий и 4-ый. Поездка из аэропорта Неthrow до центра Лондона может занять всего лишь 45 мин., если вы выберете метро. Линия метро работает c 5.00 до 23.45 c понедельника по субботу и с 6.45 до 23.00 - в воскресенье. Неthrow Express- скоростной поезд от аэропорта до cт. Раddington. Стоимость взрослого билета £12 (дети до 15 лет - бесплатно). Маршрут Airbus А2 - направляется, через станцию Еuston, до Russell Square.Взрослый билет £8.00, детский билет -£4.00. Маршрут Flightline 767 - направляется от аэропорта Хитроу до станции Victoria. Вы также можете добраться автобусом до городов: Bath, Вiгmingham, Вгistol, Оxford, Сardiff Ехеteг, Рlymouth, Southampton, Swansea. Аэропорт лондонского Сити

London Сitу Аiгроrt - аэропорт лондонcкого Сити обслуживается двумя автобусными маршрутами. Красный маршрут от аэропорта до вокзала Liverpool Street каждые 20 мин. (время в пути около 25 Мин.) Жёлтый маршрут от аэропорта до Саnaгу Wharf- очень частое отправление (время в пути 12 мин.),Тел: (0) 207 6460000.

Аэропорт Стэнстед

Из лондонского аэропорта Стэнстед (Stansted) регулярно отправляются поезда Stansted Ехргеss до вокзала Liverpool Street (время в пути 40 мин). Маршрут Airbus А6 - направляется от аэропорта Стэнстед до автобусной станции Victoria. Взрослый билет - £8.00, детский билет - £4.00 Автобусы компании National Ехргеss отправляются от аэропорта до станции Victoria в Лондоне и в Кэмбридж. Поездки между аэропортами Стэнстед, Хитроу и Гэтвик обеспечивает компания Jetlink каждые два часа утром и днём с 05.30 до 13.30. Время в пути из Хитроу 1 час 20 мин. Метро Лондона состоит из 8 линий, каждая из которых имеет своё название и окрашена в соответствующий цвет на карте линий метро. Карту вы можете попросить в окошкe продажи билетов метрополитена.
