Presenter: The person who was to become St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, was born in Wales about AD 387. At the age of 16, he was sold into slavery, became a Christian and adopted the name Patrick. He escaped from slavery after six years and went to Gaul . Much Irish folklore surrounds St. Patrick's Day. (демонстрируется презентация на интерактивной доске).

Co-presenter 1: One traditional icon of the day is the shamrock. And this stems from a more bona fide Irish tale that tells how Patrick used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Trinity. He used it in his sermons to represent how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit could all exist as separate elements of the same entity. Legend says that on Easter Sunday St. Patrick plucked a shamrock from the

ground and explained that by its triple leaf and single stem that it represented the blessed Trinity.

Co-presenter 2: By this time his heart was set on devoting himself to the service of God in the sacred ministry. Right up until his death on 17 March 460 A.D. Patrick continued to watch over the churches, which he had founded in all the provinces in Ireland. Patrick traveled extensively, baptizing, confirming, and preaching as well as building churches, schools and monasteries.

St. Patrick: I'm looking over a four leaf clover

That I over-looked before.

One leafe is sunshine, the second is rain,

Third is the rose

That grows in the lane.

No need explaining

The one remaining

Is somebody I adore.

I'm looking over a four leaf clover

That I over-looked before.

(демонстрируется презентация празднования на интерактивной доске, звучит ирландская джига)

Co-presenter 2: It's a national Irish holiday. Every year on March 17 or the preceding Saturday people have parades. Green is one of the national colours of Ireland and also one of the signs of spring. Green stripes are painted on the streets where the parade will travel. People wear green shirts, ties, hair ribbons and hats. Many Irish bars even serve green beer on that day!

Presenter: Dear friends, we have St. Patrick's Day Quiz now. (Звучит джига, команды выполняют задания викторины, жюри оценивает работу и объявляет результаты)

There was an Old Man of the border,

Who lived in the utmost disorder;

He danced with the Cat ,

And made tea in his Hat,

Which vexed all the folks on the border

There was a young lady of Niger,

Who smiled when she rode on a tiger;

They returned from the ride , with the lady inside,

And a smile on the face of a tiger.

There was a young man of Peru,

Who wanted to ride a kangaroo;

But when he came to the zoo,

There was no kangaroo,

And that saved the young man of Peru.

There was an old man of Hungary,

Who was always thirsty and hungry;

When he came for a visit,

He ate all his friend's biscuits,

And they finally sent him to Hungary.

There was a wonderful lady of London,

Who always had ten cats around her;

When she went out alone,

She couldn't find the way home,

And the cats found the lady in London.
