1) 1700. English Captain James Cook first landed in Australia.

2) 1879. This day Thomas Beecham, English conductor, opera and ballet impresario was born.

3) 1897. Sir Joseph John Thomson, an English physicist, the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1906, discovered the electron.

4) 1935. Reflective devices such as "cat's eye" first appeared on the British roads. They were invented by Yorkshire inventor Percy Shaw.

5) 1941. Barry John Bridges was born. He is a great English footballer, coach and striker played for the football club "Chelsea", "Birmingham City", "Queens Park Rangers". He is the tenth record "Chelsea" by the number of goals for the club - 93 goals.

6) 1945. Richard Warwick was born. We know him from the films such as "If .... ", "Romeo and Juliet" and "Hamlet".

7) 1993. Elizabeth II announced that Buckingham Palace would be opened to tourists. The collection of ticket sales went for the reconstruction of Windsor Castle.

8) 2009. The most famous footballer of Manchester United Rain Giggs played his 800th game.
